What are the responsibilities and job description for the New Product Development Lead Engineer position at Crenlo Engineered Cabs?
SUMMARY :
Provides coordination, leadership and advice to the NPD Design Engineering team supporting multiple design projects. Takes into consideration the needs of the customer, gauges the internal capabilities and capacities needed to execute design tasks, drives evaluation of design for manufacturability and utilizes engineering principles to ensure successful launch of designs to production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Coordinates NPD Design team activities related to project definition, planning and execution of projects governed by the PDP Stage Gate process
- Manages the NPD portfolio and takes accountability for results related to safety, timing, budget and quality in coordination with the Product Development strategy
- Provides a single point of contact for PDP projects related to project status, execution and escalation
- Provides timely feedback and oversite to NPD design team members with a heavy focus on human management.
- Creates a culture of collaboration between NPD and other Crenlo support functions
- Leads collaboration of NPD Design Process improvement activities through management and execution of activities.
- Analyzes and supports areas of training and development of team members
- Engages and disseminates work across supporting NPD design resource support teams based on project priorities and resource availability.
- Owns the execution of NPD cab design projects, with design activities including the following :
o Develops electrical, mechanical and / or non-metallic design content with data-based justifications; utilize independent judgement to guide and develop new designs and capabilities
o Develops designs through a detailed understanding of Crenlo manufacturing capabilities; implements best practices to drive manufacturing process optimization.
o Develops strategic technical partnerships with suppliers to develop new products and technologies to support design needs.
o Coordinates the purchasing, fabrication, and building of cab prototypes and pre-production units.
o Reviews and approves cab Engineering Changes.
o Provides concise and effective technical guidance and communication to customers; builds effective technical communication paths with customers.
o Advises customers on appropriate industry standards and codes to utilize in design
o Documents all design decisions with appropriate justification in design files.
o Provides detailed understanding and a technical authority for 7 key cab main component design areas, advanced understanding of GD&T requirements and couples this knowledge with an understanding of Crenlo manufacturing process capabilities for optimal design for manufacturability.
o Leads design reviews and support justification for design decisions.
o Leads root cause analyses processes for effective problem definition and development of corrective actions.
o Translates end-user functional requirements into product specifications and develop lowest cost ways to deliver performance requirements.
o Identifies and mitigates design risks prior to prototype and pre-production builds.
o Develops design recommendations and provide fact-based justifications to internal and external customers
o Ensures project activities are on-time and due dates are met.
o Ensures accurate designs meeting our customer's needs (both internal and external), accurate and complete design files / records and build drawings.
