Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and teach the philosophy to staff and consumers that recovery is possible for everyone.
- Family Peers use their lived experience to ensure engagement and active participation of the family throughout the treatment process and assist family members in developing knowledge and skills to promote their family member's recovery
- Family Peers can provide peer services to families of a child or adolescent experiencing a serious emotional disturbance and/or substance use disorder.
- Implement and maintain weekly peer-to-peer support groups.
- Be trained and facilitate committee meetings and groups such as NAMI, Double Trouble, DBSA, WRAP, and Consumer Government.
- Educate and assist consumers with rights, responsibilities, and appeals.
- Represent CREOKS at state and local meetings and awareness events.
- Attend weekly staff/treatment team meetings.
- Assist individuals in attempting to contact and re-engage consumers to treatment.
- Teach skills to recovery.
- Utilize and teach problem solving techniques with members;
- Teach members how to identify and combat negative self-talk and fears;
- Support the vocational choices of members and assist him/her in overcoming job-related anxiety;
- Assist in building social skills in the community that will enhance quality of life. Support the development of natural support systems;
- Assist other staff in identifying program and service environments that are conducive to recovery; and
- Support consumers in using a Wellness Recovery Action Plan. q. Responsible to provide Wellness Services.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Family Peer is an individual who has lived experience as a caregiver of a child, youth or young adult who has mental health or behavioral health challenges and is certified by ODMHSAS to offer family peer support services.
- Ability to communicate needs to others.
- Ability to share story of recovery to individuals and groups.
- Knowledgeable on mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders.
- Successfully complete the 4-day PRSS Core training and test to be credentialed.
- Become a trained facilitator of Double Trouble in Recovery (DTR).
- Become a trained facilitator of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP).
