Role Overview
The Engineering Manager is responsible for the design, development, and sustainment of all hard and soft-sided shelter solutions and environmental control units. This position is assigned to Western Shelter, a member of the Western Protective Solutions family of companies, and will reside at either our Springfield, Oregon or Tyler, Texas facility. The Engineering Manager reports to the Vice President of Operations.
Responsibilities
- Leads a 10-person design engineering team, overseeing both new product development and product sustainment
- Ensure project specifications, budgets, and deadlines are clearly communicated and understood
- Coordinates multiple concurrent projects, creating timelines, cost projections, organizing collaborative meetings, and ensuring projects comply with specifications, delivery schedules, and budgets
- Reviews work and projects of subordinate engineering staff for technical accuracy
- Establishes, implements, and maintains administrative policies, procedures, and standards
- Prepares and executes departmental budget
- Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; apply this knowledge to continually improve product offerings
- Collaborates on strategies for future development projects based on the companys overall objectives and resources
- Coordinate with Sales and Operations departments on product and component features, modifications, custom orders and new products
- Ensure compliance with safety and security regulations
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining a high level of safety including strict adherence to all regulatory requirements
- Provide employees with ongoing support, feedback, and counseling, conduct annual performance reviews and, when necessary, corrective action
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people and job functions both in person and via technology
- Review and approve employee hours worked and/or leave taken. Approve timecards on a biweekly basis
- Liaise with HR (Human Resources) to address employee issues regarding resolution and escalation in a timely manner.

Physical Requirements
- Able to lift/ move up to 25 pounds of material without assistance
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time and perform repetitive tasks such as pulling, lifting, and carrying materials
- Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced
- Engage in repetitive movements of wrists, hands, and fingers typing and/or writing
- Working frequently at close visual range (i.e. preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcription, computer terminal, extensive reading)
- Ability to travel up to 25% of available time
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field required
- Masters degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering management or business administration is required
- 4 years of experience as an individual contributor
- 3 years of experience in CAD design with SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor
- 5 years of demonstrated engineering leadership experience in an Engineer to Order (ETO) manufacturing environment
- 1 year experience performing finite element analysis in SolidWorks Simulation or similar software
- Proven success with departmental budgetary management
- Demonstrated accomplishment with team building, metric development, and achievement of project profitability
