Position Summary
Practitioner is an experienced Physician, who is skilled in their ability to provide the full range of core psychiatric services including evaluating, diagnosing, performing histories and examinations, consulting, medication reconciliation, and non-procedural treatment to patients presenting with psychiatric needs. Practitioner assures clinical guidelines are followed when providing patient care. Keeps up with changing guidelines regarding general patient care and patient-specific clinical conditions. Discusses wellness and adherence with patients as necessary.

Position Summary

Practitioner assures clinical guidelines are followed when providing patient care. Keeps up with changing guidelines regarding general patient care and patient-specific clinical conditions. Key Duties And Responsibilities
Clinical Duties Specific to Psychiatrist Position:
- Maintains at least 8 half days of clinic weekly
- Participates in clinical Staffing Meetings with the Behavioral Health team.
- Supervises mid-level providers as needed
- Commits to see a minimum number of patients per year as set annually by the clinical leadership team
- Closes notes within 7 days of the visit
- Provides 6 weeks of notice for planned vacation
- Perform and document complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific histories and physical examinations;
- Prescribe, direct, and administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders
- Assess the need for and perform additional screening and diagnostic testing, based on initial assessment findings;
- Orders, execute, and manage appropriate clinical tests; analyze and interpret diagnostic images; Formulate differential diagnoses by priority;
- Prioritize accurate data collection;
- Perform clinic visits on assigned patient population;
- Document clinic progress notes, plans of care, and evaluations appropriately in the EHR for medical record keeping, clinical tracking, compliance, billing and reporting purposes.
- Administers or prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities, performs medication reconciliation;
- Utilize evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care;
- Initiate appropriate referrals and consultations;
- Provide specialty specific consultation services upon request and within specialty scope of practice;
- Facilitate the patient’s transition between and within health care settings, such as referring, transferring, and discharging patients.
- Maintains clinical competency, as demonstrated in providing and directing patient care.
- Maintains compliance with FTCA, LSBME, OSHA and other regulatory agencies’ statutes and standards including CrescentCare Standards of Care and CrescentCare Clinical Staff Guidelines.
- Complies with all Agency and regulatory safety standards and infection control.
- Assists in educational programs for staff and participates in team meetings.
- Obtains proper informed consent as a prerequisite to any procedure requiring informed consent. This information must include the signature of the responsible practitioner.
- Provides education to patient and patient’s personal support system in areas such as disease management, safer sex, adherence, etc.
- Communicates with medical staff concerning patient care issues and functions as a part of primary care team using evidence-based practices.
- Promotes teamwork, good interpersonal relations and communication among staff at the healthcare setting.
- Follows CrescentCare policies and procedures related to patient care
- Operates within the scope of practice as outlined by the privileges granted and this job description.
- Participates as required in Peer Review process.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as necessary.
- All other duties as assigned
- The minimum education level required for the position is the following:
- Medical Degree
- Holds current Louisiana Medical/Nursing Licenses without restrictions
- Board certification in the practitioner’s terminal board
- Successful completion of an ACGME or AOA-accredited residency/fellowship in Psychiatry.
- Has admitting privileges with a hospital directly or a collaborative agreement with a physician who has admitting privileges
- Preferred: 2 or more years’ post-residency experience
