JOB DESCRIPTION

Required:

  • Three to four years of experience in Surgical Services
  • Prior Management experience
  • BSN or Bachelor of Science in a related field
  • Current licensed in the state of Idaho, or licensure eligible
  • BLS on first day or to be assigned by the Learning Center
  • AORN certified or eligible
  • Eligible for Idaho professional nurse licensure
  • Must have understanding and experience in Sterile processing, sterilization and decontamination procedures.

Preferred:

  • Masters degree preferred

Full-Time: 80-hrs per pay period

FLSA: Exempt (salaried)

Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm

This position oversees approximately 50 FTE's (RN, CST, Anesthesia Tech, CNA, Clerical staff). St. Joe's Operating Room is equipped with seven (7) operating suites and state of the art surgical technology. We are proud to be home of a VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution and the da Vinci Xi Surgical System providing robotic-assisted surgery by Intuitive. There are many surgical specialties housed here at SJRMC, such as, general surgery, neurology, neurology-spine, orthopedics, orthopedic-spine, obstetrics, gynecology, ear-nose-throat, and podiatry, just to list a few.

Primary (Essential) Duties:

  • Meets with the CNO on a regular basis to discuss departmental objectives, policies and procedures, productivity and capital, standards of care, management and personnel concerns, and incidents and emergencies pertinent to patient care operations, personnel management, and other issues affecting the department.
  • Organization and direction of functions and activities in the department:
  • Implements established policies and procedures of the Medical Center and PCS Division, and interprets them to personnel, patients, Medical Staff, and public.
  • Provides for effective and efficient utilization of resources: personnel, equipment and facility. Establishes an environment that will provide for the provision of quality patient care within the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the department, Division, and Medical Center.
  • Plans, directs, and evaluates departmental routines. Ensures principles of patient safety and quality throughout.
  • Evaluates patient care, work performance, techniques, and fulfillment of nursing tasks meets evidence-based practice standards. Regularly evaluates department for compliance with policies and procedures, goals, objectives, and philosophy. Takes appropriate action when noncompliance occurs. Conducts root cause analyses and other strategies to avoid repetition.
  • Meets with the CNO concerning department staffing, patient care planning, maintenance of supplies and equipment, problem-solving and staff development where appropriate. Invites CNO to briefs, huddles and debriefs as applicable. Schedules and meets with other C-suite leaders to conduct Executive Patient Safety Rounds in department.
  • Participates in maintaining accrediting and professional agencies’ established standards. Participates in introducing new or revised standards by planning constructive change: (a) assists in establishing departmental and Division policies, implementation and administration of the policies, and assists in assuring that required standards are met; (b) ensures availability of most current procedures via electronic means; (c) cooperates with other members of PCSs' ad-ministration in planning and organizing Division functions and activities, establishing policy, achieving and/or maintaining objectives and goals, problem solving, institution of new systems when appropriate, and other appropriate or as-signed projects; (d) provides staff and career development to subordinates and support for peers in professional and personal development.
  • Participates in hospital orientation programs in cooperation with the Department of Education.
  • Promotes good intra and interdepartmental relations and public relations. Leverages Director of Communication and Marketing to spread message of quality surgical care and the professional staff who provide it.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communications and rapport with Medical Staff members in a manner that is receptive to their needs and concerns thus providing for collaborative working relationships.
  • Coordinates activities with other nursing and non-nursing departments as appropriate in assuring the smooth functioning of individual department as well as house-wide cooperation.
  • Supervises and coordinates all activities within the department so that workflow is smooth and in the best interest of patients, family members, personnel, and physicians.
  • Responsible for maintaining the patients' medical records within the department and other records as required.
  • Assures that appropriate departmental orientation is provided to all personnel and that timely evaluation of orientees occurs.
  • Prepares and submits departmental reports in a timely and efficient manner as required.
  • Participates in hospital, Medical Staff, and Division committees as assigned.
  • Holds monthly department meetings and patient care educational conferences as appropriate, maintains minutes. Provides minutes of meetings for those unable to attend.
  • Keeps up to date in the field of nursing and departmental management through current literature, attendance at workshops and seminars. Maintains education attendance/participation records of other departmental personnel.
  • Responsible for inpatient and outpatient surgeries performed within the operating suite.
  • Makes decisions on the quantities of Sterile Processing and OR items that should be purchased.
  • Responsible to coordinate and adhere to inventory management and supply chain initiatives in collaboration with Supply Chain Management.
  • Keeps up to date on the Sterile Processing and OR scheduling/inventory computer system to train personnel.
  • Keeps accurate records on the equipment to meet regulations needed for all standards including TJC.
  • Keeps abreast of the techniques used in the processing and decontamination of Sterile Processing.
