JOB DESCRIPTION :
POSITION SUMMARY
The Infection Preventionist is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the hospital’s infection prevention and control program. This role involves conducting surveillance, data analysis, and reporting of hospital-acquired infections, as well as educating staff on best practices to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
PRIMARY (ESSENTIAL) DUTIES
- Develop and implement infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular surveillance of hospital-acquired infections and report findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Analyze infection data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Educate healthcare staff on infection prevention protocols and best practices.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to investigate and manage infection outbreaks.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to infection control.
- Participate in the development and review of infection control risk assessments.
- Provide guidance on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other infection control measures.
- Conduct audits and inspections to ensure adherence to infection control standards.
- Stay current with the latest research and developments in infection prevention and control.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Maintains availability as a resource person to the director as well as staff. Maintains effective and open communications and acts as a liaison with regard to educational and professional practice activities of all departments and the Medical Center. Maintains open lines of communications with the medical staff and other health professionals.
DEPARTMENT RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer
EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Public Health, or related field.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required. If not possessed at time of hire, must obtain within 2 years.
- Preferred: minimum of 2 years' experience in infection prevention and control in a healthcare setting
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of infection control principles and practices
- Ability to analyze data and generate reports.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
