Position Description
POSITION TITLE:Custodian DATE:Revised on 2/8/2023.
DEPARTMENT: Buildings & Grounds LOCATION:District Wide -PT & FT
REPORTS TO: Director of Buildings & Grounds
POSITION GOAL:School Custodians keep educational facilities clean and safe. They work both inside and outside the building, doing tasks that make the school look nice and operate smoothly. Responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and disinfecting all areas of the building.
Essential Functions & Duties:
The Custodian duties will include:
1. Report all unsafe conditions.
2. Check all doors and windows to maintain security in the building.
3. See that pencil sharpeners, waste cans, and trash receptacles are emptied.
4. Dust and clean windows, door panels, blackboards, Promethean boards, and lockers, including the possible use of step ladders.
5. Wash and dust fixtures, windowsills, trim, doors, and related furnishings.
6. Clean and service lavatories, restrooms, and toilets.
7. Monitor and inspect the building facility for safety and cleanliness. Maintain and make minor repairs to the facility and troubleshoot and report areas requiring maintenance to the Director of Buildings and Grounds. Notify the Director of Buildings and Grounds of hazardous or harmful situations.
8. Secure the facility by locking doors and windows and setting alarms. Monitor building security throughout the shift. Report supply and equipment needs to the Head Custodian.
9. Collect all paper and debris in containers for pick-up daily.
10. Check, clean, and properly care for all cleaning equipment and tools; repair as needed; maintain all custodial closets (to be kept clean, free of debris, and organized).
11. Report all equipment damage that requires repair.
12. Remove snow and ice from sidewalks as needed to ensure safe egress to and from the building
13. Lock and unlock doors to classrooms, offices, etc. Maintain locked doors
14. Assist staff by supervising the exit of students during drills.
15. Assist with the inventory of supplies.
16. Be thoroughly acquainted with all light and power electrical panels, where they are, and what they operate.
17. Ensure all fire and safety regulations are met throughout the building and report all abnormalities to the supervisor.
18. Be responsible for timely reporting absences/time off in the Frontline absence system.
19. Responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and disinfecting all areas of a facility. Perform basic cleaning, sanitation, and minor upkeep of an assigned building and associated grounds, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, trash removal, etc.
20. Provide high-level customer service for school events and community activities, including set-up/clean-up.
21. Perform any other related duties the Director of Buildings and Grounds assigns.
a. Cut Grass – Courtyards.
b. Clean Gym – Cafeteria – Auditorium.
c. Clean Boys and Girls Bathroom by High School Entrance.
d. Clean Woodshop
e. Clean Designated Hallways
f. Clean Field House.
g. Replace all floor titles and step threads.
h. Remove the filter on the heating and cooling units in the school. Also, vacuum before installing new filters.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma
2. Demonstrates interest in buildings and grounds to protect staff and students.
3. Evidence of emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved.
4. Work independently and self-motivated
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
1. Hourly rate according to the agreement between the Crestwood School District Board of Directors and support staff CBA.
