Position Summary
Inspects in-bound tractors and trailers to identify operating and DOT defects, ensuring safety and compliance.Role and Responsibilities
- Conducts thorough inspections of tractors, trailers, reefers, and tires.
- Records identified defects in the maintenance system.
- Communicates identified defects to the driver and shop personnel to administer repairs.
- Maintains positive relationships with shop staff and drivers.
- Receives and carries out instructions.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn how to identify tractor, trailer, and refer defects.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to identify mechanical issues.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to create and read work orders.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work safely in a fast-paced, noisy environment around moving equipment.
- Ability to regularly lift 50lbs and occasionally lift up to 100lbs.
- Must be able to inspect vehicles to determine repairs needed.
- Good vision to inspect repair work.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
Certificates, Licenses, And Registrations
DOT brake inspection certification as required by supervisor and/or location.
