Design Engineer - NPI Position Summary
The Design Engineer I - NPI, will be responsible for CAD modeling, documentation of medical devices, and equipment. This position will also design and develop assemblies, engineering drawings and prototypes.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, develop, and refine product concepts using current tools, analysis techniques, and technologies through use of parametric CAD software and other mechanisms
- Perform Mechanical design/redesign of medical device products applying industry standards (e.g. ASME Y14.5M-1994) to detail drawings
- Create, modify, and maintain documentation using CAD tools that are tied to a data management system
- Analyze data to inform design decisions and ensure manufacturability.
- Complete document packages by detailing parts and creating BOM and schematics following layouts, sketches, and verbal instructions to ensure that all the needed documentation is available for manufacturing process
- Review and verify design work of peers to check for compliance with standards and corporate procedures
- Generate engineering change orders
- Monitor the utilization of employee safety and Operational Excellence programs
- Partner with the other business segments: sales/marketing, customer service, engineering, quality, and finance
- Understand customer needs and the core business markets we serve
- Communicate with customers as necessary regarding technical details of the molding and validation process
- Ensure business systems are implemented, maintained, and function properly
- Perform FMEA to reduce or eliminate risks, and to design for reliability and manufacturability
- Understand tooling and manufacturing processes that relate to the industry
- Commit to lifelong learning by staying updated on industry trends through reading, attending trade shows, leveraging multimedia resources, and participating in relevant training programs
- Support and comply with the company Quality System, ISO, and medical device requirements
- Read, understand, and follow work instructions and standard work
Qualifications
- Engineering Degree or related experience in a design function
- 0-2 years of molding experience with a strong preference towards Plastic Injection Molding
- Blueprint reading, GD&T, Statistical Process Control
- Coursework in engineering mathematics, technical writing, mechanical design and analysis manufacturing processes and systems, tooling and fixture design, additive manufacturing, lean manufacturing.
- Working level understanding of design for manufacturability – both for plastic injection molded components and metal machined components
- Proficient in 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD), preferably SolidWorks or similar CAD software
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Detail-oriented, proactive, innovative, with strong interpersonal, organization and communication skills

- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Internship or COOP program experience with Plastics Injection Molding companies
- Design simulation experience (FEA, Moldflow, Moldex3D, etc.)
- Injection molding part design, processing, and tooling experience

Pay Range
USD $60,800.00 - USD $76,000.00 /Yr.Company Benefits

20 hours:
