We are seeking an active and energetic Outdoor Fitness & Activity Companion to support a 22-year-old young man with special needs his physical fitness and outdoor activities. Based in our scenic Northern Berkeley home near Tilden Park and the Rose Garden, this role offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while making a positive impact.
Responsibilities:
- Accompany him on walks, bike rides, or light exercises in nearby parks.
- Engage in casual activities such as basketball or tennis.
- Encourage physical activity in a fun, engaging, and adaptive way.
- Support a positive, active lifestyle through outdoor exploration and games.
Qualifications:
- Enthusiasm for outdoor activities and fitness.
- Patience and creativity in adapting activities to individual needs.
- Experience working with individuals with special needs is a plus.
- Knowledge of or experience with physical therapy is a strong plus.
About the Young Man:
The individual you’ll be supporting is a 22-year-old young man who is calm, cooperative, and loves spending time outside the house. He is slightly non-verbal, but we are actively encouraging more speech, and he participates well in activities. He is highly functional and manages his own personal care independently—no physical assistance or mobility aids are required.
He is almost always in a good mood, making him a joy to work with, and thrives in structured, supportive environments where he can explore and grow. His favorite activities include being outdoors, trying new things, and engaging in meaningful tasks.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $27.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
