Position Summary:
The Director of Business Development will lead the identification, exploration, and development of new programs, services, business partnerships, and strategic growth opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions. In this role, they will drive the agency’s mission forward by overseeing the design and implementation of initiatives that align with or complement the agency’s scope of services, service areas, and core competencies. The Director will also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and evaluate potential expansion and partnership opportunities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend business development opportunities, including new programs, partnerships, and potential mergers or acquisitions, in alignment with the agency’s mission, core competencies, and strategic goals.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including nonprofit service providers, clinical services, government agencies, legal counsel, and other relevant partners.
- Conduct due diligence on potential mergers and acquisitions, assessing financial viability, risk assessment, and strategic alignment.
- Develop and implement evaluation tools to assess potential initiatives, geographic expansions, and service needs.
- Prepare and present comprehensive recommendations for mergers or acquisitions, including financial analysis, risk assessment, benefits, and integration strategies.
- Identify effective entry strategies for new initiatives, including service location selection, funding sources, and regulatory considerations.
- Oversee the preparation of responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) related to business development priorities.
- Develop and manage business development budgets to support strategic growth initiatives.
Other Job Functions:
- Assist in development of the agency’s strategic plan.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, including managerial responsibilities, strategic planning and project management.
- Experience working with/managing consultants, contractors, and advisor.
- Strong organizational, research, and analysis skills.
- Creating and innovative orientation to problem-solving and identifying opportunities.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Inclusive and supportive approach to decision-making and information sharing; proven ability to form positive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated skills developing presentations, spreadsheets, budgets, and timelines.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.

- Typical office/administrative environment and physical demands.
Working Environment:
- Office environment; frequent travel largely within Virginia, Maryland, and District of Columbia.
Supervision Received:
- Business Development functions under the direct supervision of EVP of Development and CAO.
Supervision Exercised:
- Manages the Business Development department, overseeing 1-3 staff members.
