What are the responsibilities and job description for the Law Clerk position at Criminal Defense Law Firm?
We are a criminal defense law firm in Bloomfield Hills. The firm has a fast paced, dynamic criminal defense practice and we are seeking a law clerk with open availability. Our attorneys are involved in a wide variety of criminal cases and the law clerk will work on these cases with our attorneys and get incredible experience.
The clerk must have the following:
- an interest in criminal defense law
- excellent legal writing and research skills
- an ability to commit to a reliable schedule, even if it changes every week or two, and one that the attorneys in our office can count on in order to ensure that a clerk is here
- computer skills, i.e., word processing, Microsoft word, proficiency with Lexis/Nexis;
- excellent analytical skills.
- a law school student, studying for a juris doctor or possess a juris doctor.
The clerk will likely work approximately 20-30 hours week depending on their schedule and/or ours, etc.
The clerk will read police reports, transcripts, watch in car and other videos, take discovery notes and highlight important aspects, contradictions, inconsistencies and help prepare the attorneys for court cases and court appearances.
They will be involved in drafting, researching and writing legal motions and pleadings in a variety of criminal type cases.
The clerk will also need to have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and be willing and able to drive to deliver and pick up documents, pleadings and discovery.
Anticipated job start date: As soon as possible.
