POSITION SUMMARY:

The Victim/Family Advocate delivers crisis intervention, case management, and support to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This role aids victims during immediate crises, collaborating with community organizations and legal services to enhance support and Crisis Center programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide advocacy, crisis intervention, and emergency support services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. This includes providing referrals to other community services, providing emergency and essential transportation and accompaniment to safe houses, law enforcement agencies, medical exams, and court hearings.
  • Greet all victims and non-offending caregivers, complete agency intakes, educate clients of agency services and MDT model. Provide individual advocacy, counseling referrals, assist in filing for crimes victims’ compensation and protective orders, and regular follow up through the life of the case.
  • Provide education of crime victims’ rights while aiding, as needed, with enacting those rights.
  • Perform an assessment of the victim’s needs and make the necessary referrals to other social service agencies depending on the unique needs of each individual and their families.
  • Speak to non-offending caregivers about the availability of the CAC mental health services to children, educate them about the Traume-Focused CBT model for abused children and make the referral for therapy.
  • Assist forensic interviewers and the MDT in pre and post interview staffing.
  • Provide referrals and assist in scheduling medical evaluations, educate caregivers about the exam process, and provide accompaniment to appointment.
  • Travel to either Crisis Center location in Anderson and Cherokee counties as needed.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with forensic interviewers, law enforcement, district attorney’s office, medical professionals, DFPS, and other agency partners.
  • Pursue all initial training and continued education as needed to ensure CCACC is following the most current laws and best practices in all areas related to domestic/family violence, sexual assault, child abuse, trauma informed care, and advocacy.
  • Rotating on-call services to provide urgent after-hours care.
  • Attend all required staff and MDT meetings.
  • Communication with program directors and other staff to understand and support victim needs, while continually supporting all CCACC initiatives.
  • Assist with public outreach events related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse.
  • Ongoing maintenance of agency databases and records as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED: Bilingual Speaking

NECESSARY QUALIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must have a cell phone, reliable transportation and possess a current Texas Driver’s License
  • Bilingual preferred, but not required
  • Ability to pass a criminal history check, background check and CPS registry check.
  • Knowledge of community resources

Applicant that is chosen will be required to pass a Criminal background, Department of Family and protective Services Background, Sex Offender Registery check andDrug test.
