PROGRAM SUMMARY:
The Crispus Attucks YouthBuild Charter School’s (CAYBCS) Mission is to provide a supportive learning environment for students ages 17-21 who are working to earn a high school diploma. The program includes an academic component designed to offer Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Tech Ed/Construction; Industrial Arts, ELD, and Special Education to meet the needs of individual students. The program’s service component centers on developing construction skills by rehabbing houses in the community.
PURPOSE:
The Classroom Teacher will prepare and present lessons according to the curriculum that is assigned with the Pennsylvania Academic Standards and the Home Builders Institute Pre- Apprenticeship Certification Program. The strategies and techniques used will be designed to accommodate the needs of diverse learners and be planned with each individual’s needs, learning styles and ability as the primary focus of instruction. Small students/teacher ratios will be maintained to enable close interaction between students and teachers.
DUTIES:
- Create a positive classroom environment where students feel welcome, respected, and are actively engaged in learning.
- Become familiar with the Academic Standards and understand the ways in which the other Standards correlate with what you teach
- Adapt and modify curriculum and develop additional materials according to the needs of the students
- Utilize educational technology within your course study
- Participate in special projects as required
- Implement attendance, discipline and academic policies and procedures consistently
- Work in conjunction with the ESL teacher to accommodate ELL students
- Implement cultural diversity into YouthBuild curriculum
- Complete daily lesson plans as required
- Complete daily assessment of student’s classroom performance
- Work together as a member of the school staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PA Certification in Technology Education PK-12 -or- PA Certification in Industrial Arts/Technology.
- Experience in working with young adults
- Experience in construction or a related field
- Experience in creative curriculum planning and development
- Deep respect for the ideas and intelligence of young adults
- Strong commitments to helping young people succeed in an innovative education program, to reorient their lives, to nurture their leadership skills and to enable them to make a difference in their community
- Ability to relate sensitively to multi-racial and multi-cultural group of young people
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
