The College Counselor at Cristo Rey St. Viator is to work with students on a group and individual basis to gain an understanding of the college admissions and financial aid process. This individual will help direct students toward college readiness and broaden the opportunities for success to and through college.
Additionally, all CRSV Counselors will work to support student’s academic success and work-place readiness by actively ensuring appropriate course placement, scheduling, standardized assessment execution, and facilitating academic conferences with teacher teams per family and / or student request.
- Counsels a caseload of approximately 270 high school students on an individual basis providing academic advisory services that are specific to each student’s needs and strengths.
- Help students create long-term academic plans and regularly monitors student progress towards these goals.
- Implement a 4-year College Counseling Curriculum established by the Cristo Rey Network in one-on-one and whole group lessons.
- Assist the academic administrative team with the registration, course placement, student scheduling and credit checks.
- Conduct one-on-one College Counseling sessions with students and parents.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
- Work the Vice Principal of Academics, Corporate Work Study Director, and your counseling colleague to establish a system of positive student recognition and reward (academic / behavior) in an effort to celebrate success and assist with student retention rates.
- Communicate effectively and positively with supervisors, colleagues, students, and parents.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Requirements : QUALIFICATIONS
1) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution.
2) 2 years previous and successful experience in same or equivalent role.
3) Spanish language fluency preferred.
4) Candidate must be adept at building rapport and trust with people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including underrepresented urban youth and first-generation college students.
5) Strong written and communication skills; detail oriented; team player; ability to multi-task in fast paced environment.
6) Relentless focus on results, high level accountability, and willingness to do “whatever it takes”.
7) Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Cristo Rey Network and model.
8) Willingness and ability to model the Viatorian Catholic values of faith, service, and action.
9) Take part in school’s religious and spiritual programs, including faculty and staff retreats.
10) Successfully complete the “Safe Environment Training” completion to the school’s administration.
