What are the responsibilities and job description for the College Counselor position at Cristo Rey St. Viator?
The College Counselor at Cristo Rey St. Viator is to work with students on a group and individual basis to gain an understanding of the college admissions and financial aid process. This individual will help direct students toward college readiness and broaden the opportunities for success to and through college.
Additionally, all CRSV Counselors will work to support student’s academic success and work-place readiness by actively ensuring appropriate course placement, scheduling, standardized assessment execution, and facilitating academic conferences with teacher teams per family and/or student request.
Counsels a caseload of approximately 270 high school students on an individual basis providing academic advisory servicesthat are specificto each student’s needs and strengths.
Help students create long-term academic plans and regularly monitors student progress towards these goals.
Implement a 4-year College Counseling Curriculum established by the Cristo Rey Network in one-on-one and whole group lessons.
Assist the academic administrative team with the registration, course placement, student scheduling and credit checks.
Conduct one-on-one College Counseling sessions with students and parents.
Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
Work the Vice Principal of Academics, Corporate Work Study Director, and your counseling colleague to establish a system of positivestudent recognition and reward (academic/behavior) in an effortto celebrate success and assist with student retention rates.
Communicate effectively and positively with supervisors, colleagues, students, and parents.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with all CRSV faculty and staff, lead the establishment of a vibrant and engaging college going culture both on campus and within our entire school-family community.
Design and teach College Seminar classes that support the college counseling process once per week.
Planning and leading workshops for parents and students on key topics related to the college admissions process.
Ensuring students take advantage of special opportunities made available to low-income students in the college search process.
Establish and maintain relationships/partnerships with colleges, universities, outreach programs, and scholarship programs.
Actively research all aspects of college counseling: financial aid, scholarships, applications, summer and fly-in programs, and standards.
Establish and work closely with both grade level and content area faculty to ensure that the college counseling plan provides all students the opportunity to participate in college planning activities.
Monitor and track the academic progress and specific interests of individual students and to make recommendations for college programs or applications.
Coordinate the college visits to campus and college fairs.
Coordinate individual fly-in and summer programs for students.
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in counseling.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution.
2 years previous and successful experience in same or equivalent role.
Spanish language fluency preferred.
Candidate must be adept at building rapport and trust with people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including underrepresented urban youth and first-generation college students.
Strong written and communication skills; detail oriented; team player; ability to multi-task in fast paced environment.
