Job Title: Special Needs Lawyer

Job Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Needs Lawyer to join our legal team in New Jersey. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education law, disability rights, and estate planning, with a focus on advocating for individuals with disabilities and their families. This role involves providing legal counsel, representing clients in hearings and negotiations, and guiding families through the complex legal landscape surrounding special needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Representation: Represent clients in special education disputes, guardianship proceedings, and other legal matters related to special needs, including attending IEP meetings, due process hearings, and mediations.
- Estate Planning: Assist families with estate planning, including the creation of special needs trusts, guardianships, and powers of attorney to ensure long-term care and financial security for individuals with disabilities.
- Advocacy: Advocate for the rights of individuals with disabilities in educational settings, public benefits, and community services, ensuring they receive appropriate accommodations and support.
- Client Counseling: Provide legal advice and support to families navigating the complexities of disability law, including eligibility for public benefits like SSI, Medicaid, and other government programs.
- Case Management: Manage a caseload of special needs cases, ensuring timely and effective resolution while maintaining a high level of client satisfaction.
- Collaboration: Work closely with schools, healthcare providers, social workers, and other professionals to develop comprehensive legal strategies that meet the unique needs of each client.
- Continuing Education: Stay informed about changes in federal and state laws related to special education, disability rights, and estate planning to provide the most current and effective legal counsel.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the New Jersey State Bar.
- Litigation experience
- Experience in special education law, disability rights, estate planning, or related fields is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state laws affecting individuals with disabilities, including IDEA, ADA, Section 504, and relevant New Jersey statutes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to empathize with clients and advocate effectively on their behalf.
- Strong writing and legal research skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- Dedication to social justice and the rights of individuals with disabilities.
