The organization seeks a qualified Central Sterile Technician. This crucial role is instrumental in ensuring the highest standards of sterilization and safety for surgical instruments and equipment while adhering to the guidelines established by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AMMI), the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Key Responsibilities:
1. Code Cart System Management:
- Maintain and manage the inventory and organization of code carts.
- Ensure all emergency equipment is stocked, functional, and ready for immediate use.
- Regularly check expiration dates and replace expired supplies promptly
2. Decontamination:
- Perform decontamination of surgical instruments, equipment, and materials following established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety during decontamination processes.
- Assist in maintaining records and logs related to decontamination processes.
3. Assembly:
- Assemble surgical instruments and trays according to standardized procedures and preferences.
- Verify accuracy and completeness of instrument sets before sterilization.
- Follow strict guidelines for the handling and organization of instruments to prevent damage and ensure functionality.
4. Sterilization:
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment, including autoclaves and other sterilization devices.
- Conduct and document routine tests on sterilization equipment to ensure compliance with safety and effectiveness standards.
- Follow established protocols for handling sterile packages and ensuring proper storage.
5. Transport:
- Safely transport sterile instruments and equipment to various departments within the facility, ensuring adherence to infection control procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in all transport areas and storage spaces.
6. Communication and Collaboration:
- Coordinate with surgical teams, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate instrument availability for procedures.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge of best practices.
7. Inventory Management:
- Assist in monitoring inventory levels of supplies and notify supervisors of any shortages or required restocking.
- Help maintain a clean and orderly work environment to facilitate safe and efficient processing of instruments.
