Job Purpose:
Perform necessary fabrications and welding on company equipment and job work orders.
Essential Duties Responsibilities:
- Perform modifications and repairs to field and shop equipment.
- Complete job work orders for tank job materials.
- Provide support to the machinist for repairs and maintenance on prestressing equipment.
- Observe and maintain all safety procedures.
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
- Maintain and repair equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned including mechanics and machining and be subject to temporary assignment with other supervisors or for field work.
- Report to work as scheduled by the employer and without excessive absenteeism. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or equivalent.
- Must have successfully completed a welding program and/or possess a minimum of 3 years of welding experience.
Other Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to drive a forklift or learn.
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA etc.).
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.).
- Attention to detail.
- Proficient in English.
- Willingness to travel for jobsite repairs and fabrication.
- Ability to Pass a Professional Certification (e.g., an AWS welding certificate) a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily works under a shed outside exposed to the elements.
- Exposed to hazardous materials.
- Exposed to frequent loud noises.
- Exposed to dangerous machinery.
- Generally, works five 8-hour days, although overtime may occur.
