SYSTEMS ENGINEER
LOCATION: Technology Department
HOURS & DAYS: 260 day per year (Year Around), 8 hours

JOB SUMMARY
General Description: Under the general direction of the Director of Technology (IT) perform the full range of hardware and software system design, development, implementation, and maintenance activities related to the district’s Windows-based technology infrastructure. Participate in evaluating and recommending new technologies which enhance and support the district’s business plan, and provide technical advice and support to district users in the appropriate use of technology. Designs, evaluates and installs various operating systems including VMware, Linux/Unix, Windows, and Apple.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide significant lead experience in system architecture, information security, and system engineering.
- Manage physical and virtual server environments such as VMware, Hyper-V, Windows, Unix, Linux, and any other systems. This includes all aspects involving servers with cooling, power, cabling, monitoring, etc.
- Manage enterprise application architectures (Exchange, Office 365, SQL, IIS, Apache, DNS, Radius, Active Directory, etc.) along with development of value-added applications (PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.) or web tools (HTML, JavaScript, MySQL, etc.) as needed.
- Manage cloud systems such as Azure, AWS, Google Workspace, and any other instances.
- Support management of the Layer 7 firewall as part of the network operations team. This work may include, but is not limited to, security policies, NAT rules, DDoS protection and intrusion detection/alerting.
- Ensure workstations and servers are secure from viruses, malware, spam, and other vulnerabilities.
- Coordinate and perform project planning and project management responsibilities, which may include establishing priorities, specifications and approaches, organizing, staffing and scheduling, working with others to complete the project, and track/follow up on progress in relation to network management.
- Coordinate and perform appropriate documentation tasks; review drafts and revisions, and ensure reports and communications meet customer and department quality, service and other requirements.
- Respond immediately to troubleshoot and fix network problems and develop changes to systems or procedures to avoid a recurrence.
- Integrate academic software with Student Information Systems.
- Manage Identity systems like Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Single Sign-On (SAML), Google Workspace, etc.
- Assist with CCSD’s backup and disaster and recovery plan.
- Manage patches and updates to servers, applications, etc. as well as application deployment to enterprise.
- Provide end user training and education through direct and written communication.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Technology.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Researches, analyzes, configures and maintains desktop computer systems.
- Provides day-to-day technical support to faculty, staff and/or students.
- Works cooperatively and harmoniously with clients, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participating in professional development activities.
- Provides backup support to other positions in case of absence or work overload.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred from an accredited college or university with major course work in Computer Information Systems or a related field (work experience may substitute education requirement).
- Minimum five years’ of increasingly responsible experience in Information Technology is preferred.
- Minimum five years’ experience with VMware, Hyper-V, Windows, Linux, etc.
- Minimum five years’ experience with Active Directory.
- Preferred VMWare, Linux, Windows, or related systems and security certifications.
- Experience with EDR, firewall, and other security appliances, with preference given to PaloAlto and Microsoft security solutions experience.
- Experience with storage area networks (SAN).
- Experience with enterprise backup and restore systems involving SAN, cloud, tapes, etc. including disaster recovery planning and testing.
- Experience with PowerShell, Python, SQL, and or other scripting to automate tasks.
- Experience in security, networking and server environments and associated operating systems, protocols, equipment types and available tools is required.
- Experience with mobile devices, PC’s and peripherals and various operating systems (Apple iOS, Windows, Android, Chrome, etc.).
- Experience with mobile device management solutions such as JAMF, Intune, Google, etc., are preferred.
- Requires valid Oregon Driver’s License and automobile insurance that meet minimum legal requirements.
- Industry Certification preferred in Information Technology related fields (i.e., Cisco, Microsoft, VMWare, etc.).

EDUCATION:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems (or equivalent) is preferred, or a combination of an Associate’s degree and at least five years of related experience. Preference given to candidate possessing industry standard certification in technology related fields.

Work in a sometimes-chaotic environment and still maintain task organization and strategic direction. May involve exposure to noisy work areas. Able to bend, twist, stoop and reach frequently. Hand dexterity for computer work and keyboarding skills at a minimum of 45 words per minute.
