JOB SUMMARY
General Description: The Groundskeeper provides grounds and landscape maintenance within the Maintenance Department. Under Lead Groundskeeper supervision, the Groundskeeper installs, maintains and repairs underground sprinkler irrigation systems, equipment operation and construction of special landscaping or play areas, in addition to all other assigned groundskeeping duties. Reports to Lead Groundskeeper.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fills a position designated for groundskeeper.
- Performs all general groundskeeping duties, including, but not inclusive of:
- Installing, repairing and replacing landscape irrigation systems
- Administering preventative and regular maintenance of assigned equipment
- Operating trucks, tractors, mowers and other ground maintenance and construction vehicles
- Operating a variety of hand and power tools commonly used in grounds maintenance work
- Assisting custodial crew with irrigation, mowing and other landscaping duties as assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or the equivalent
- Able to relate well to students, staff and public
- Read, understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions
- Adhere to the federal requirements of a drug-free work place
- Able to perform maintenance functions at the rate expected of grounds personnel
- Able to pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Lift, move, or be able to carry objects weighing 60 lbs on a frequent basis, over 60 pounds on an occasional basis
- Use cleaning materials and equipment
- Responsibilities may require the employee to stand and/or walk for long periods of time
- Ability to stoop, kneel and crouch
- Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination, hand and finger dexterity including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to operate equipment and read technical and safety information
