What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paving Foreperson position at Crooker Construction?
Crooker Construction is looking to hire a safety conscious individual with a strong work ethic and experience working on an asphalt paving crew to join Team Crooker as an Asphalt Paving Foreperson.
The Paving Foreperson will be responsible for managing the employees on the crew and all activities associated with the efficient application of asphalt on each project to meet company production demands and quality specifications.
The roles on the crew include rakers, laborers, roller operators, screed operators, and paver operators. Working knowledge and previous experience with each of those roles is required.
Previous experience running a crew is preferred but not required. Crooker is committed to training the right candidate with a wide range of paving experience who is looking to grow into a Foreperson role.
The position is full time, seasonal. Year-round work is available based on the individual’s desire to work year-round and his/her skillset.
Key responsibilities include; but are not limited to:
- Having a clear understanding of asphalt procedures/production.
- Assisting crew members with job site duties.
- Daily communications with the Paving Superintendent and other employees regarding project status.
- Understanding production needs and maintaining contact with the asphalt plant (i.e. start and stop times, progress of the job, projected tonnage per day, breakdowns, periodically monitor yield and overruns to ensure compliance, etc.).
- Establishing and overseeing traffic control needs, including proper signage, proper staffing, management of flaggers, etc.
- Communicating effectively to ensure all crewmembers understand what is expected.
- Requirements:
- Must have a strong work ethic and be eager to learn.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Must enjoy working in a team environment and be willing to assist other crew members
- Must be willing to work the necessary schedule which may include long hours, nights, and/or weekends.
- Must have a valid driver’s license. A CDL license would be a plus.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, staff, customers, agencies, and the general public.
- Must demonstrate a professional and well-mannered attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, customers, and the general public at all times.
