CropLife America (CLA), a trade association located in Arlington, VA, is seeking a full-time Manager for Communications, Science Policy and Regulatory Affairs. This role is responsible for managing communication strategies related to technical science policy and regulatory issues. This role involves developing and executing communication plans, crafting content, and managing stakeholder engagement to effectively represent the organization's interests in science and regulatory matters. The role reports to the Senior Director, Strategic Communications, with a dotted-line responsibility to the Vice President, Science Policy and Regulatory Affairs.


Responsibilities: 

  • Create and oversee the production of various communication materials, including press releases, policy briefs, fact sheets, speeches, web pages, PowerPoints, talking points, and opinion pieces regarding CLA’s science policy and regulatory work, including comments, letters, papers, and thought pieces in journals and magazines.
  • Ensure all content is accurate, persuasive, and aligned with the organization’s messaging and policy positions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, regulatory bodies, scientific organizations, and advocacy groups.
  • Cultivate relationships with CLA members in coordination with the Science Policy and Regulatory Affairs team.
  • Support the goals of the Science and Regulatory Policy team’s objectives. 
  • Align communication efforts with the organization’s overall strategic goals and policy positions.
  • Develop campaigns to raise the profile of key science policy and regulatory work of the CLA team, such as the Life Cycle Assessment, web tools and resources, and other projects. 
  • Promote workshops, webinars, and special events held by the Science Policy and Regulatory Affairs team and provide support and promotions in advance and following (including promotion of the CLA/RISE Annual Regulatory Conference).
  • Use new technologies to share information, including QR codes, video, social media, and clarity of design and layout to share information widely about CLA’s science policy and regulatory work.
  • Understand Member and stakeholder needs. 
  • Assist in creating opportunities for the CLA Science Policy and Regulatory Affairs platform. This includes identifying speaking engagement opportunities, managing those that come in, and promoting such events before and after.
  • Maintain website for Science Policy updates.
  • Support the Senior Director of Strategic Communications in the management and growth of the Communications Committee, as well as implementation of CLA’s strategic plan as to the Science Policy and Regulatory Affairs goals.
  • Support projects developed by the Communications Committee as well as by the Science Policy and Regulatory Affairs team. 
  • Work on the development of the Annual Report with other members of the communications team.

Requirements

  

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, with a proven successful project management track record.
  • Proven experience with technical communications.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in using communication tools and software, including social media platforms, content management systems (CMS), and email marketing tools.
  • Ability to work with graphic design tools to create high-quality products.
  • Experience supporting meetings and events from a communications standpoint (scripting, releases, announcements, awards).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and creativity.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing strategies and tools.
  • Ability to travel to DC quarterly and attend meetings/events as needed.
