Primary Purpose:
The high school manager is a working manager and will be expected to participate in the activities required of all Food Service employees. In general, the manager will be responsible for supervising, controlling, directing and participating in the preparation and serving of food, the storage of all food and supplies, and the sanitation of kitchens. The manager will maintain and perform all tasks necessary for the proper accountability of all required records.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
- Associate Degree in Food and Nutrition or Food Management or TASN or SNA level 3
- Serve Safe certification or equivalent
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Food service operational experience.
- Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
- Must be familiar with all aspects of school food service operations.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
- Must have good written and oral communication skills.
- Must exhibit good public relations with employees, administrators and staff.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in school food service/ retail food service, with 3 years of management experience; Associates Degree can substitute for 2 years.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Directly supervises a staff of food service employees. Staffs, schedules, and plans work assignments and holds departmental meetings.
- Manages and participates in the preparation of food within an established production system following standardized recipes,
- preparation and service methods, and safe food handling techniques to ensure food safety standards.
- Attends relevant training classes and workshops.
- Orders and/or purchases food and supplies according to established specifications, determined by menu, volume and student needs. Recommends purchase of small equipment.
- Participates in developing and maintaining routine procedures for accurate checking and distribution of meals to promote and evaluate client satisfaction.
- Maintains required departmental records.
- Directs and participates in the preparation and serves planned meals for special school-related and community activities.
- Report to the Director on any emergency repairs needed for the cafeteria.
- Maintains defined standards of sanitation, safety and health for personnel, food preparation, kitchen equipment and physical plant.
- Takes physical inventory of food, equipment and supplies, as required. Properly stores food and supplies on shelves in storeroom,freezer, and refrigerator.
- Participates in budget development and implementation of a system of cost accounting.
- Promotes a program of nutrition education, procures nutrition resource materials, and serve as resource person for nutrition education program.
- Participate in a two-way communication system within the individual school and Food Service Department, as well as with the school system.
- Participates in establishing and/or amending departmental procedures that affect the manager’s responsibilities.
- Instructs employees on government regulations and procedures, and participates in planning programs for staff development.
- Manager is responsible for the implementation, training, supervision and management of the Distric HACCP program in their school.
- Manager is required to Maintain TASN/SNA Certification Level 3, and Health Dept. Certification.
- Performs other duties assigned by the Director.

Environment:
- Moderate to heavy exposure to hot/cold temperatures, steam, wet floors and cleaning chemicals.
