Job Description:
The primary objective of the Assistant Nursery Manager role is to assist the Nursery Manager in the daily/weekly/monthly management of the nursery staff and nursery material. The nursery manager should focus on the micro and day to day task delegation within the nursery, allowing the general manager to focus on the bigger picture, seasonal and annual goals. The nursery manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations to ensure smooth operation that maximizes daily sales with extra attention to customer service. They should have a clear understanding of all the job roles within the nursery and follow through with the Nursery Manager’s expectations for each of those positions. Along with staff management, setting up the nursery for retail success by focusing on tagging, signage and marketing, should be the primary objective.
Responsibilities:
- Delegate tasks to nursery staff and follow through with routine checks to monitor progress and quality.
- Assist departmental managers in developing employees and keeping them up-to-date on the nursery’s overall seasonal mission/goals.
- Work with the general manager to outline sales objectives and a plan to achieve those goals.
- Maintain a consistent standard for merchandising across all areas of the nursery.
- Help carryout training with nursery associates along with departmental managers and identify weaker areas for them to focus.
- Complete weekly, monthly and seasonal checks to ensure retail systems/operations are up to speed and lead to success (ex: changing out touchscreen buttons, shifting retail material to make space for seasonal items, etc…).
- Primary contact and direct manager for all cashiers, including but not limited to: training, working directly with cashier lead, monitoring daily operations, and setting up registers with necessary tools/paperwork.
- Help progress inventory accuracy by working with the inventory lead, staying involved in bi-annual inventory counts and setting up retail for inventory success (organization, tagging and shrinkage system).
- Work hand-in-hand with the buyers to identify voids in merchandise, popular items and flat items to avoid rebuying.
Requirements:
- Horticulture, landscaping and/or gardening experience preferred
- Weekend Availability
- Capable of lifting over 50lbs throughout the day
