Overview
As a Sports and Recreation Specialist at Cross Lanes YMCA Child Development Center, you will be responsible for planning, leading, and overseeing a variety of fun, exciting, and skill-building sports and recreation activities for children during our Summer Day Camp season. From traditional sports to innovative games, you'll create a positive environment that encourages teamwork, friendly competition, and physical fitness. Duties
- Plan, lead, and participate in a variety of sports, recreation, and physical activities for groups of children.
- Foster teamwork, leadership, and good sportsmanship through engaging team-based activities and games.
- Encourage campers to develop physical fitness, coordination, and a lifelong love for active recreation.
- Ensure the physical and emotional well-being of all campers by maintaining a safe and positive environment.
- Collaborate with fellow staff to coordinate daily schedules, special events, and field trips.
- Lead activities such as team sports, individual fitness challenges, obstacle courses, and cooperative games.
- Assist with camp events, activities, and field trips related to sports and recreation.
- Ensure all sports equipment and materials are safe, organized, and ready for use.
- Promote the value of physical activity, teamwork, and healthy living.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating respect, sportsmanship, and leadership.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for all camp materials and supplies.
- Maintain equipment and facilities to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
Skills
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with children, ideally in a camp or recreational setting.
- Ability to design and lead engaging, age-appropriate sports and recreation activities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with children and fellow staff members.
- Enthusiastic, creative, and flexible, with the ability to adapt to the diverse needs of campers and changing environments.
- Passion for sports, fitness, and promoting an active lifestyle.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain certification prior to the start of camp).
- Background in physical education, sports management, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to pass all required background checks, including sex offender registry.
- Must provide a negative result from a TB test.
- Supply a recent health assessment signed by a licensed physician, performed within 90 days of the hire date.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
