Cross Plains is seeking a full time Employment Specialist. This position will work with individuals in the services to provide needed supports to be successful in employment. Using a person-centered discovery process the employment specialist will identify the needs, desires and interests as it relates to job training and placement. Candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills and an aptitude for engaging people and cultivating effective working relationships. General tasks include teaching job readiness skills, business soft skills, social skills, and interacting with employers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Encourage greater expression of choice by listening to the individuals' using supported employment services preferences and desires.
- Utilize the employment discovery tools to determine each individuals' interest and aspirations for employment.
- Provide assistance in identifying job opportunities, completion of job application and interview preparedness.
- Provide support and advocacy at the individuals place of employment.
- Responsible for on-the-job supervision and training of individuals using supported employment services.
- Utilize training tools so that individuals using services master the skills needed to be successful at their job.
- Maintain contact and a working relationship with employers and individuals' supervisors.
- Provide individualized support at the job site including but not limited to job coaching, building natural supports, and identifying any needed job accommodations.
- Provide guidance and encouragement to individuals regarding job performance.
- Implement the Individual Support Plan and document progress.
- Provide travel to work training as needed.
- Remains alert to each individual and their support needs during each shift.
- Communicates with co-workers, individuals, and their family members.
- Communicates effectively with supervisor regarding all aspects of supported.
- Observes confidentiality requirements concerning the affairs of the individuals and the work environment.
- Demonstrates an awareness and support for the individual's personal goals.
- Assists the individual using services to fully exercise rights and responsibilities and to make informed choices.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Special Education, Human Services, Business Administration or comparable degree or 2 years’ experience providing working with students with disabilities
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening
- Caring attitude, person centered, and genuine interest in people and in understanding each person’s “uniqueness”
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
- Strong interpersonal communication written and oral skills
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office 365, online documentation system, and other technology
- Must be comfortable in developing relationships with employers
- Valid GA Driver’s License
