Overview
Join our Illinois-Wisconsin Telecommunications team as an Engineer Transport II, where you'll play a vital role in optimizing our transport network and supporting fiber-based uplift projects.
This position focuses on disconnecting legacy circuits, auditing databases, and ensuring accurate fiber design documentation while partnering with engineers on new technologies, upgrades, and construction initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Submit circuit disconnect orders and manage responses from 3rd-party providers for fiber-based uplift projects.
- Audit and maintain accurate records in circuit management databases, such as Canvas (CND) and internal tools like FUZE.
- Collaborate with engineers on the design and optimization of fronthaul, backhaul, and microwave networks.
- Issue work orders for new cell sites, LTE, and C-band carrier upgrades.
- Document monthly interconnect plans, ensuring bandwidth uplift to 10G and disconnecting outdated 1G circuits.
- Manage telecom vendor relationships to achieve timely disconnect orders and associated credits.
- Support Ericsson baseband, Ciena 5164 / Nokia IXRe, and Assentria Siteboss for cellular network design.
- Partner with field and Network Assurance teams to activate fiber connectivity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor s Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
- 3 years of transport design experience in the cellular / telecommunications industry.
- Knowledge of LIT Ethernet and Dark Fiber circuit projects.
- Experience with 3rd-party vendor ordering processes and network portfolio maps.
- Strong skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with Ericsson baseband, Ciena 5164 / Nokia IXRe, and Assentria Siteboss.
- Expertise in disconnecting unused circuits to reduce telecom expenses.
- Familiarity with fiber connectivity activation processes and interconnect tracking methods.
Work Environment
This role requires working onsite at the Rolling Meadows, IL office at least two days per week (Tuesday / Wednesday).
