FINANCE DIRECTOR

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Financial Director is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the church, including budgeting, accounting, and reporting. This role requires a blend of financial expertise and spiritual leadership, ensuring the church’s finances are managed with integrity and aligned with its mission to serve the congregation and the community. The Financial Director will collaborate with ministry leaders and senior leadership to ensure proper stewardship of resources while exemplifying Christian values.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. Financial Management & Oversight
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analysis for senior leadership, the church board, and quarterly emails to our givers.
  • Develop and oversee the church's annual budget, working closely with ministry leaders to allocate resources aligned with the church's mission.
  • Monitor cash flow, ensuring that the church maintains liquidity to meet operational needs.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments, online donations, tithes, and offerings.
  • Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, review general ledger entries, and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Ensure our significant events have payment capabilities and are staffed.  
  1. Stewardship & Donor Management
  • Manage the accurate tracking and reporting of donations, ensuring compliance with IRS regulations for charitable contributions.
  • Work with church leadership to develop and promote a culture of generosity and financial stewardship.
  • Issue regular giving statements to members and donors, providing transparency and accountability for church funds.
  1. Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the church’s financial assets.
  • Coordinate external reporting (currently Capin Crouse) and ensure all financial records comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure timely filing of tax returns and other necessary government filings (e.g., Form 990 for nonprofit status).
  1. Capital Projects & Long-Term Planning
  • Provide financial oversight for capital campaigns, building projects, and other long-term initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership on long-term financial planning, including reserves, investments, and risk management strategies.
  1. Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Supervise and mentor the finance/accounting team, including bookkeepers and accountants.
  • Collaborate with ministry leaders to provide financial guidance and support for their respective programs.
  • Work closely with the Senior and Lead Pastors and the church board on financial strategies and long-term goals.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Minimum of 4 years of Church or Non-profit experience in accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger reports.
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.
  • Ability to operate calculator, computer, and other general office equipment.
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop, CCB, and Excel required.
  • Knowledge of Payroll functions, laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in English.
  • Must be able to keep donor and employee matters strictly confidential.
  • Being a Notary is a bonus but not necessary.
  • Knowledge of balance sheet reconciling. Assist in discrepancies.
  • Be goal-oriented.

SPIRITUAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exhibit the fruit of the Spirit as outlined in Galatians 5:16-25 and demonstrate a Christ-centered life in personal and professional relationships.
  • Be a person of high moral and spiritual character, living out the qualities of a godly leader as described in Psalm 15, 1 Timothy 3:1-15, and Titus 1:5-11.
  • Support and align with the vision of the Lead Pastoral Team and other church leadership, faithfully following their guidance and direction.
  • Maintain healthy, positive, and fruitful personal relationships within the church community.
  • Teachability and accountability, showing a willingness to grow spiritually and professionally under the guidance of church leadership.
  • Active member of Crossline Church and fully committed to fulfilling the duties outlined in the church’s membership covenant.
  • A supportive spouse (if married), reflecting a partnership in ministry and life.

 

  • Schedule: Monday – Thursday, Friday 32 to 40 hours per week
  • Reports to: Lead Pastor
  • Salary: TBD
  • Benefits: Cell phone allowance, vacation, PTO
