General Teacher Responsibilities:
• Create, deliver, and record a cohesive, well planned and articulated two year program to a mixed aged class – four and five year olds - that is rooted in the Core Knowledge and Core Virtue Curricula
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of each student
• Collaborate with grades above to ensure the continuity and flow of the Core Knowledge sequence
• Track course curriculum and prepare lessons for substitute teachers
• Respond in a timely way to voicemail, email, and mail
• Collaborate with and direct assistant teacher, if applicable
• Plan weekly schedule with assistant teacher, if applicable, including recess & lunch duties, arrival & dismissal duties
• Set and achieve annual professional development goals with Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs
• Send weekly emails to parents, reviewing and previewing curriculum, homework, and expectations
• Provide conferences with parents as needed, including required quarter one and quarter three conferences
• Keep classroom orderly and safe
• Ready your room for summer admissions season within one week of the close of the current school year
• Other duties as may be assigned
Kindergarten Teacher Responsibilities:
• Teach the Core Knowledge sequence in language arts, math, history and geography, and science to a multi-level classroom with a differentiated math and reading curriculum
• Teach Core Virtues
• Prepare curriculum and lead Introduction to Kindergarten program. This program will run at a minimum of two times per school year
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Develop and maintain proficiency in computer skills including PowerSchool, Google, Word documents
• Effectively communicate orally and in writing
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
• Be creative and energetic
• Maintain healthy and appropriate boundaries with all students and school community members
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality
• Ability to frequently sit, stand, stoop, bend, and move throughout the room and campus
• Pass a state and federal background check
Attendance and hours:
• Arrive at school 30 minutes before school begins and leave no sooner than 30 minutes after school closes
• Attend all faculty meetings and workshops during the school year and as assigned in the summer
• Attend required community events including BTSN, Holiday Concert, Move-Up Day, and Graduation. Attendance for CAPA events is encouraged.
