Position Summary
The Cook is responsible for maintaining the food preparation and serving areas in a sanitary condition. This individual
will also be heavily involved in preparing and serving quality food in a timely manner while maintaining the elegance,
grace, and dignity of each resident.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Preparing and serving three quality, healthy meals/snacks per day
● Check the quality and freshness of ingredients
● Present, garnish and arrange final dishes
● Set up workstations with required ingredients and equipment
● Performs food preparation and food service duties as required according to facility guidelines and the current standards of practice
● Ensure ingredients and final products are fresh
● Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing and mixing ingredients
● Bake, grill, steam and boil meats, vegetables, fish, poultry and other foods
● Operate kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, grills
● Maintain food safety and sanitation standards
● Maintains kitchen and dining area in a safe and sanitary condition for self, residents and others
● Handle and store ingredients and food
● Accommodate guests’ special requests
● Responds to resident dietary requests in a positive and cooperative manner
● Assists residents by providing a restaurant-style atmosphere
● Execute opening and closing procedures
● Monitor station inventory levels
● Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
● Food service experience required
● Ability to work with minimal supervision
● Must have appropriate food handler’s permit
● Experience in management and effective leadership
● Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
● Must enjoy working with seniors
● Must pass pre-employment drug screening, criminal background investigation, and reference inquiries
Physical Demands and Work Environment
● Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, crouch, grasp, handle, kneel, pull, push, stoop, squat, twist and transfer
● Frequently required to lift 50 pounds
● Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms
● Frequently required to talk and hear
● The noise level in the work environment can be quite loud
