 General Description 


Preschool Teacher is responsible for understanding and complying with all Title 22  Requirements. In addition: The teacher shall prayerfully help students learn attitudes, skills, and  subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christians  to be world changers and history makers for the glory of God.  


Essential Job Functions 

1. Reflect the purpose of the school which is honor Christ in every class and in every activity.  

2. Lead students to an understanding that God is everywhere and that the Bible is God’s Word.  

3. Lead students to an understanding they were created by God.  

4. Lead students to an understanding that they can pray for themselves and others.  

5. Cooperate with administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives  governing the operation of the school.  

6. Teach classes assigned following prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the  director.  

7. Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the  curriculum and activities. 

8. Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises to provide an excellent  learning environment.  

9. Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.  

10. Plan broadly using developmentally appropriate milestones and objectives, and more  currently using lesson plans.  

11. Implement plans and activities that are developmentally appropriate, and as much as  possible, meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each  student to do his/her best work.  

12. Utilize valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the  school’s philosophy.  

13. Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative  teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional.  

14. For TK teachers only: Use homework effectively for review, enrichment or project work.  

15. Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide required documentation for  each child’s portfolio.  

16. Utilize assessments and portfolio work to adequately inform parents and director of each  child’s progress.  

17. Prepare assessment forms and conduct annual parent/teacher conferences as scheduled by  the director.  

18. Maintain state required communication with each parent through phone calls,  accident/incident reports, or direct meetings with parents when needed. (Including contacting  parent by phone on second day of a student's unreported absence).  

19. Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent Crossroads Christian Church in a  favorable and professional manner to the school’s constituency and the public.  

20. Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents and staff by treating others with  friendliness, dignity, and consideration.  

21. Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, staff, and administration.  (Matthew 18:15-20).  

22. Attend and participate in scheduled devotions, in-service, retreats, committee, staff, and  Parent-Teacher Fellowship meetings.  23. Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature.  

24. Inform the director in a timely manner if unable to fulfil any duty assigned. Prepare  adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher.  

25. Be informed as to the academic, spiritual, and social development of each of his/her  students.

Interacting with Students 

Teachers must be able to positively interact with all students and share the love of Christ. This  includes difficult students, students who work below grade-level and students whose personalities  grate on a teacher. Teachers put aside their own feelings in order to treat all students with respect,  provide them all with equal opportunities for learning and make them feel comfortable in the  learning environment.  


Create a Learning Environment 

Creating a safe learning environment that is conducive to learning is essential. Teachers must set  high expectations for student performance and behavior. All rules must be enforced consistently  and fairly. A student's personal rights, as stated in Title 22, much be maintained at all times.  


Lesson Plan Design  

All Teachers must be capable of designing lesson plans that include Biblical Integration that meet  student needs and cover the course content standards. This requires knowing how to choose and  create instructional materials to accommodate students at different levels. It also requires creating  scope and sequence that provides students with enough time to master the content. 

 

Able to Employ Varied Teaching Strategies  

Best practices and other appropriate teaching strategies allow competent teachers to effectively  teach the curriculum. Teachers need to incorporate a variety of strategies, including nontraditional teaching strategies, to help students with multiple learning styles learn and stay  engaged. Teachers must also attend regular mandatory staff and state in-service trainings and  development sessions to learn new strategies and the latest best practices.  


Use Assessments to Improve Teaching Effectiveness 

Teachers must utilize preschool milestones, portfolio requirements and preschool assessment  forms to accurately measure what has been taught and what students have learned. Competent  educators combine informal and formal assessment techniques to monitor student  performance. They may also incorporate other creative methods to assess students.  


Excellent Verbal and Written Communication 

Communicating effectively with parents and other stakeholders in a child’s education is a key  component of a teacher’s job. A quality teacher provides regular updates on a child’s progress and  immediately addresses any concerns that may arise. The educator also knows how to  calmly discuss issues with difficult parents and how to come to decisions and develop a  behavioral/learning plan that has the best interest of the child in mind.  


Able to Collaborate 

Teachers must be able to collaborate with other teachers and school staff. Teachers can learn from  one another and grow into better teachers through collaboration. They can also collaborate to  make the school a safe effective learning environment for all students and to improve the overall  image of the school and the instruction that takes place.  


Maintain a Professional Appearance 

Being a teacher requires maintaining a professional appearance at all times. This includes dressing  appropriately and acting professionally. Teachers often serve as role models for students. Actions  such as using inappropriate language, gossiping about teachers and students or dressing  inappropriately can cause students to lose respect for a teacher and the teaching profession.  


Demonstrating a Commitment to the Profession 

Teachers must make a commitment to education and professional development. Subject matter  knowledge fades, teaching strategies change and new research is always modifying the way  students learn and teachers teach. By furthering your education and taking part in professional  development sessions educators can continue to improve the quality of education they provide to  their students.  


Supervision 

Works under the direct supervision of the director. This position is required to supervise: teaching  assistants, aides, volunteers, and students.  


Education and Experience  

Must meet requirements of Title 22: section 101216.1  Teaching experience is preferred but not required. Candidate must have experience interacting  with students and motivating and inspiring them to live out their God given purpose.  


Working Conditions 

• Able to work outside in inclement weather (50 °or less, 90° or more, rain, wind,) to  supervise children at all times.  

• Able to stoop, kneel, bends at the waist, crawl, and reach on daily basis.  

• Able to write on the whiteboard and prepare bulletin boards  

• Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.  

• Able to climb stairs as needed  

• Able to quickly summon help when an emergency arises either in the classroom, or on the  playground.  

• Able to render minimal first aid and CPR to students who may be injured while in the  classroom or on the playground  

• Able to escort and supervise children and move them from one area to another as a  cohesive unit.  

• Able to move freely inside the classroom to monitor students  


Mental Work Demands  

• Regular and on-time attendance. 

 • Hours may include some evening events and activities  

• Occasional travel to conferences and off campus meetings 

 • Ability to deal with difficult students and parents/guardians  

• Manage classroom, including the supervision of assistants and aids assigned to work in your  classroom
