A Construction Manager oversees all aspects of a construction project, coordinating with internal teams, subcontractors, general contractor and stakeholders to ensure the projects are completed on time, within budget and to quality standards, while adhering to policies and procedures, often with a focus on managing the construction process.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Project Planning and Budgeting:
- Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones and resource allocation.
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets and track expenditures to maintain financial control.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Site Management:
- Oversee construction activities on site, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and identify issues.
- Manage and coordinate the work of internal teams, subcontractors and vendors.
- Contract Administration:
- Review and negotiate contracts with subcontractors and vendors.
- Manage change orders and address contract disputes.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Regularly communicate project status updates to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with design teams, engineers, general contractor and other internal departments to ensure project alignment.
- Address concerns and resolve issues promptly.
- Quality Control:
- Implement quality control procedures to ensure project meets specifications and standards.
- Conduct inspections and review deliverables to identify and rectify quality issues.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or related field or at least 5 years of experience as a Construction Manager or in a similar role.
- Proven experience in construction project management, ideally within a corporate setting
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage diverse stakeholders
- Proficiency in project management software and budgeting tools
- Leadership abilities to manage teams and resolve conflicts
- Advanced communication skills - quick to respond, distribute and follow up on high priority operational items.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Must commit to expectations in the Crossroads’ “I Promise” document, including using the Bible as the ultimate standard of truth, practicing spiritual disciplines, and pursuing personal purity.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, including active construction sites, office settings, and remote project locations.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally (if applicable).
- Ability to climb ladders or scaffolding and navigate uneven terrain when inspecting construction sites.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor conditions, sometimes in extreme weather or challenging conditions.
- Ability to travel to project sites, including overnight stays or remote locations, as required.
- Good vision and hearing for site safety monitoring and effective communication with teams.
- Ability to use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by safety standards on construction sites..
- Performs effectively under pressure and against strict time constraints.
- Must be able to work in common office conditions (sitting at a desk, working on a computer for 60 minutes at a time, etc.)
- Must be able to walk up to 3 miles
- Ability to manage and adjust schedules to meet project deadlines, ensuring that all aspects of construction operations are completed on time.
- Flexibility to handle variable work hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and occasional weekend work, as needed to meet project milestones or address emergencies.
- Willingness to travel to various job sites, sometimes on short notice, to oversee construction progress and resolve issues.
- Ability to travel up to 75% of the time, including overnight stays and extended periods away from the home office, depending on project locations.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing tasks and adjusting timelines as necessary to ensure quality and safety standards are maintained.
- Availability for regular on-site inspections and meetings with project teams, clients, and contractors.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends and other high impact events at Crossroads.
