Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduit & Wiring Installation:

    • Install conduit of various sizes for electrical and instrumentation wiring—measuring, cutting, bending, threading, and securing it in place.

    • Pull and install wiring, ensuring the correct size and conductor count, along with proper cutting, carrying, and lubrication.

  • Tool Usage & Equipment Installation:

    • Utilize hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches, socket sets, pipe wrenches, hammers, taps) and specialized gauges to install electrical and instrumentation devices with proper torque.

    • Install, replace, or repair electric motors ranging from fractional to multiple hundred horsepower, sometimes requiring lifting, pushing, or prying to position and align them.

  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance:

    • Diagnose and resolve electrical circuit issues to minimize equipment downtime.

    • Operate a variety of tools—including electric drills, surface grinders, hammer drills, conduit benders, and wire pullers—to complete maintenance tasks.

    • Use computer-based troubleshooting tools and logic to assist with problem resolution.

    • Adhere to strict safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Additional Duties:

    • Collaborate with mechanical crews as needed and maintain excellent housekeeping practices.

    • Perform other related tasks as assigned by management.

    • Safely manage repetitive lifting (up to 40–50 lbs independently; above 50 lbs with assistance or mechanical aid).

Position Qualifications

  • Licenses & Certifications:

    • Must hold a valid State of Michigan Journeyman or Master’s License.

    • Possess a High School Diploma or GED and a valid Michigan Driver’s License.

    • Maintain required certifications through ongoing education.

  • Technical & Mechanical Expertise:

    • Industrial, mechanical, or maintenance experience (electrical, machining, or welding preferred).

    • Successful completion of an Electrical/Instrumentation Apprenticeship program (or equivalent certification) is required. • Ability to program PLCs and VFDs and read electrical/instrumentation prints, including ladder logic. • Familiarity with networking, system boot-up procedures, power grids, and the use of power transformers. • Understand preventative maintenance procedures.

  • Safety & Physical Requirements:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, including effective use of tools and working in hazardous areas (such as explosive dust environments while equipment is in operation).

    • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and perform tasks that require heavy lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, and bending.

Key Competencies

  • Technical Proficiency:

    • Capable of handling multiple pieces of technical equipment simultaneously while troubleshooting and resolving issues efficiently.

  • Communication & Problem-Solving:

    • Excellent attention to detail with strong verbal and written communication skills.

    • Ability to understand and follow both verbal and written instructions.
