Seeking a skilled Wire EDM Operator to set up, operate, and adjust programs on wire electrical discharge machines (EDM) to produce precision metal parts and components. This role requires proficiency in CNC programming, blueprint reading, and the ability to maintain high-quality production standards with minimal supervision. Occasional work on manual machines may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Operation & Setup: Configure and adjust wire EDM machines to meet production requirements.
- Programming: Program, edit, and modify CNC controls; perform off-line programming as needed.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Fixture & Tooling Setup: Manufacture or select appropriate work holdings and fixtures.
- Quality Control: Measure in-process parts to ensure they meet blueprint specifications and customer tolerances.
- Finishing & Inspection: Trim or de-burr parts, perform inspections using calibrated metrology tools, and maintain quality control standards.
- Work Coordination: Collaborate with engineering to review machining requirements and optimize processes.
- Documentation & Communication: Maintain work orders, job travelers, and other production paperwork; communicate program changes and job-related issues to supervisors.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow company safety policies and TS standards while maintaining an organized work environment.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience: 4-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, trade school, or apprenticeship.
Technical Skills:- Ability to use toolroom equipment, including air hoses, hoists, wrenches, vices, and tool-holders.
- Proficiency in CNC programming, blueprint reading, and GD&T.
- Strong math skills for calculating feeds, speeds, and print conversions.
- Knowledge of various raw materials (stainless steel, cold-rolled steel, etc.) and their machining properties.
- Experience with precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, etc.).
Communication: Ability to receive and give clear oral and written instructions.
Quality Focus: Responsible for ensuring the quality of completed work.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Primarily a sedentary position with frequent use of hands.
- Occasional standing/walking (25% of workday).
- Bending, twisting, and leaning as required.
- Exposure to loud noises, dust, solvents, coolants, and oils in the shop environment.
- 20/20 vision required (with or without correction).
- Ability to travel if needed.
