Day in the Life of a Medical Laboratory Technologist
- Receives specimens and performs specimen accessioning, checking specimen adequacy per requirements.
- Prepares reagents and organizes supplies as necessary.
- Performs pre-analytic checks and maintenance as necessary or assigned recording inappropriate records.
- If requested, employee to assist in training of employees (laboratory or client) if a new procedure or specimen requirement change is added to lab test menu.
- Performs all testing for which there is validation of performance and appropriate skill level.
- Performs all quality control testing, verifying and result recording.
- Maintain all required written records, to include records of action taken as necessary.
- Enter results as appropriate for practice.
- Store all reagents and supplies; organize the work area as necessary.
- Perform all necessary and assigned inventory duties.
