Assists the Registered Professional Nurse by helping to prepare and maintain a sterile environment using the surgical standards, policies, and procedures for the purpose of assisting the physician with the surgical procedure.
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent and must be certified or certification eligible through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). This requires attendance/graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program. If hired prior to receiving certification, the employee must pass and take the certification exam during the first year of employment. If the employee is unable to pass the certifying examination then termination of employment as a Surgical Technologist within the institution will result.
