The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for Patrol Deputy positions. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office offers a variety of assignments including; Patrol, Corrections, Dispatch, Tactical Response Team, Negotiations Team, Bomb Team, Drone Team, Dive Team, Recreation Division, Court Security, Investigations, Lakes Area Drug Investigative Division, Internet Crimes Against Children Investigations, Explorers Program, Employee Mentorship Program, Honor Guard.
Deputies have opportunities to attend numerous career-enhancing trainings, as well as specialized trainings to become department instructors (firearms, taser, use of force, de-escalation). Deputies also attend monthly department trainings.

- Perform routine patrol of the County.
- Enforce State and County laws and ordinances.
- Respond to and investigate motor vehicle accidents.
- Conduct criminal investigations.
- Respond to calls for service as dispatched.
- Prepare written reports and required documentation utilizing prescribed processes and technology.
- Manage files and related data in compliance with office and regulatory guidelines.
- Serve civil papers.
- Apprehend and arrest individuals who commit criminal acts.
- Enforce state and local traffic laws.
- Promote public safety through routine patrol, involvement in crime prevention programs, public safety presentations and interaction with the public.
- Respond to a wide variety of emergencies and render aid as needed.
- Performs other patrol duties as are required.
- Associate's Degree in criminal justice or related field OR Associates Degree in any field and completion of the Law Enforcement certificate course by time of offer.
- Possess a full time peace officer's license issued by the Minnesota POST Board or eligible to be POST licensed by the offer date.
- Valid state issued driver's license.
- Applicants will be required to attend a testing session. Applicants will be notified of testing time and location once their application has been reviewed.
- Must pass a background investigation conducted by the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office.
- Must pass a pre-employment medical physical and psychological evaluation.
- Must pass a drug test.
- Prior in state law enforcement experience.
- Prior employment experience in dealing with the public.
- Knowledge of the geography of Crow Wing County.
- The ability to communicate fluently in English, both spoken and written.
- The ability to understand and follow detailed spoken and written instructions.
- Ability to conduct building searches and respond to calls that may require entering small confined spaces.
- The ability to see well enough to perform patrol duties, detect crime, complete arrest procedures, and write necessary reports.
- The ability to hear well enough to detect detailed information through spoken and other audible communications such as radio, electronic and telephonic means, and to perform patrol duties and detect possible crimes and/or calls for assistance.
- The ability to proficiently utilize technology such as computers, cell phones, email and other data receiving and sending devices.
- The ability to competently use department issued handguns, shotguns, rifles, batons, and other law enforcement equipment.
- The ability to stand on a hard surface for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability and confidence to speak in a public setting.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Ability to cope with a variety of stressful situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect for the rights of others.
- Ability to think clearly and act quickly in emergency situations.
- Ability to convert investigative notes into clear, concise reports.
