What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Support Intern position at Crow Wing, County of (MN)?
The Technical Support Intern role is to assist in desktop user support. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading PC hardware and software.
- With supervision, assess the need for and implement performance upgrades to desktop PCs and laptops, including the installation of CPUs, I/O and NIC cards, ribbon cables, hard drives, RAM memory chips, CD-ROMs, and so on.
- Provide installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of county software applications.
- Assist with creation of and maintenance of PC images for all departments/computers.
- Follow standard help desk operating procedures; accurately log all help desk contacts using call-tracking software.
- Direct calls to appropriate Level 2 support staff as necessary to resolve problems.
- With supervision, administer and resolve issues with associated end-user workstation networking software products
- Maintain accurate records of status and location of all computing equipment.
- Receive and respond to incoming calls and/or e-mails regarding PC problems.
- Ensure that physical desktop connections (connectors between PCs, servers, phones, etc.) are in proper working order.
- As necessary, coordinate with third-party support and PC equipment vendors.
- Assist in maintaining operational documentation.
- Assist with client software testing/implementation.
- Able to work outside of the normal business hours including weekends.
- Perform other duties as requested or required.
- High School degree and currently enrolled in a credited computer related program.
- Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems XP, Windows 10 or higher.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – 2013 or higher
- Valid State issued driver's license.
- Must pass a background check.
- Self-starter with an ability to work with limited supervision.
- Strong oral and written communication skills essential.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Learn terminology, policies and procedures regarding the departmental functions.
- Work independently.
- Knowledgeable in Windows desktop operating systems.
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suites.
- Ability to answer telephone and respond accurately and courteously to inquiries.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
- Must possess analytical and problem solving skills.
- Must work well in a team environment.
- Ability to read and interpret manuals and technical journals.
