JOB TITLE: Battery and Charger Service Technician DEPARTMENT: IND Sales
JOB SUMMARY: The Battery and Charger Service Technician is a customer-facing position responsible for testing, evaluating, repair, and preventative maintenance services for batteries, chargers, and ancillary battery room equipment sold by our Industrial Division sales team. Supplemental to onsite services, this person will perform additional shop-based testing, evaluation repair services as well as general warehouse duties. The Battery and Charger Service Technician is the primary branch person to perform pickup and delivery services of new, repair and spent products to and from the branch and the customer location.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial batteries and chargers.
- Perform all assigned planned maintenance on customer industrial batteries and chargers.
- Maintain a service van and its inventory.
- Process paperwork after completion of each job.
- Responsible for accounting and maintenance of warehouse inventory. Prepares customer orders, loads and unloads batteries from the factory.
- Responsible for stock rotation and repair: Puts stock rotation on charge, cleans and replaces back in stock or used rack. Completes repair work as necessary.
- Accountable for accurate and neat paperwork.
- Performs all housekeeping duties.
- Is responsible for:
- Understanding and following policies, procedures and instructions
- Identifying and reporting product, process and quality system non-conformities to appropriate personnel
- Controlling nonconforming products
- Supporting implementation of corrective/preventive and improvement actions
- Be familiar and compliant with the systems, procedures, and documentation of the Crown Quality System and how it relates to this position and Crown quality objectives.
ACCOUNTABILITY: This position reports directly to the Branch Manager/Operations Supervisor.
COMPETENCIES:
- Basic math and computer skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervision, and management
- Good mechanical and electrical aptitudes, knowledge of electrical/electronic systems, read electrical schematics

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Safety & Environmental training
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and ability to safely operate lift trucks
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical degree, previous battery and charger repair experience, welding skills, and knowledge of various types of testing equipment preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This job operates in an industrial warehouse environment. This role routinely uses industrial equipment and tools and works near moving mechanical parts. The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the job the employee is required to stand/walk for 8 hours at a time. Use of both hands, to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or tooling; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
The employee must be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. This is a full-time, day shift position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, at minimum of 8-hour shifts. Must be able to work all mandatory overtime as required; this could lead to working weekday and weekend overtime.
