What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Professor of Teacher Education position at Crown College?
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
HOURS WORKED: 8:00 – 4:30, Monday-Friday, evenings, and weekends as needed
DEFINITION:
This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position to teach undergraduate teacher education courses on campus within the School of Liberal Arts and Education. Teaching responsibilities are assigned by the Chair of the Teacher Education Department. Courses include but are not limited to those that prepare students for teaching positions in the K-6 educational system.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
This position reports to the Chair of the Teacher Education Department, the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
None.
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
Works from an office at Crown College. Regular attendance on campus to complete job duties is required. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, personal computer and related software, printer, calculator, copy machines, and tools related to undergraduate teaching and research.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Instruct and supervise teacher candidates in K-6 Elementary Education content and pedagogy.
- Contribute to the accreditation, assessment, and licensing requirements by Professional Educators Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) by writing reports, analyzing data, attending PELSB and MACTE meetings, etc.
- Advise students in the teacher education program.
- Prepare for and participate in weekly assessment and department meetings.
- Demonstrate mastery and scholarship in an appropriate professional field, including but not limited to professional development aligned with licensure.
- Plan and provide theoretical instruction and experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the Teacher Education department.
- Promptly evaluate student work and achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to coursework.
- Participate in strategic planning and vision for the Teacher Education department.
- Stay abreast of state legislative actions related to Teacher Education.
- Support the mission, vision, and core values of Crown College.
- Engage in general faculty responsibilities that include:
- Participation in faculty business meetings,
- Care of students,
- Crown College committee assignments, and
- At least 10 hours of scheduled office hours per week to be available to students.

- Strong interpersonal skills and positive energy regarding professional education.
- Established ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Demonstrate excellence in spoken, written and electronic communication skills.
- Ability to integrate collegiate teaching in Elementary Education and the Christian faith.
- Experience evaluating students’ work, analyzing the scores, and reporting results promptly.
- Agreement and personal alignment with the Crown College Statement of Faith and Community Covenant.

Stamina to stand for extended periods of time in a classroom environment.
- Hand and arm (or equivalent) dexterity adequate to allow for safe use of equipment and extensive use of a keyboard for data entry.

- Vision adequate for frequent viewing of computer screens and safe use and supervision of equipment and materials.
- Body strength to frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Elementary Education or related field with a focus in Elementary Education
- Completed an initial licensure program in Elementary Education and has a Licensure in Elementary Education
- Three years of successful elementary classroom teaching
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the above minimum qualifications):
- PhD/EdD in Elementary Education or related field with a focus in Elementary Education.
- Additional teaching licensure that complements Elementary Education
- College teaching experience, especially in Christian higher education
- Familiarity and/or experience with standards and assessments
- Experience with advising
- Five years of successful elementary classroom teaching
