Crown Technical Systems is headquartered in Fontana, California, with additional production and engineering facilities in Garland, Texas, and Ontario, Canada.

Job Summary:

The Director of Business Development is responsible for collaborating with senior leaders to formulate and implement business development plans and strategies consistent with the overall mission and vision of the company.

This position will require up to 25% of travel, both locally and nationally (within the U.S. and Canada).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Hires and trains the business development and marketing staff.
  • Oversees the workflow and schedules of the department for all locations (California, Texas, and Canada)
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develops short-term and long-term business plans of the company that align with the overall company objectives
  • Develop strategies to identify and engage potential customers to share product offerings.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with existing customers and secure new business opportunities.
  • Assess operational issues in relation to competitiveness and staying current in terms of trends, innovations and pricing while staying up to date with external and internal developments in the environment for identifying new market segments
  • Monitor internal business operations progress in relation to various sales metrics; conduct KPI analysis to understand what the performance indicators are showing.
  • Monitor and control budgets for the department.
  • Plan and perform the development and deployment of robust value propositions and action plans to close deals effectively and maximize margin.
  • Engage in ongoing projects to ensure that deliverables, timelines, quality standards, and customer expectations are met.
  • Oversees the work of the representation agencies (3rd party) to ensure they are actively engaging with customers and fulfilling agreement requirements (forecast of new projects, etc.)
  • Participates in trade shows, seminars, and other industry events; actively engage with participants to represent company’s business interests and increase brand awareness.
  • Oversees the company’s commission structure and ensures commissions are processed according to program rules and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a strong business acumen
  • Proven ability to cultivate and manage business relationships/partnerships
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively deal with multiple competing priorities
  • Proven ability to gather and synthesize market data to identify competitive and effective business opportunities
  • Solid technical understanding of mechanical or electrical product offerings along with familiarity with local market, customers, and competitors
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM Systems

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related field; education may be substituted for additional years of related work experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in developing business opportunities preferably in the electric utility industry
  • Previous experience leading a team of sales professionals

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse the production floor as needed.
  • Must be able to travel 25% of the time, both locally and internationally (U.S. and Canada)
