Job Summary:
The Quality Control Supervisor - Fabrication is responsible for supervising, planning, coordinating, directing, and implementing the quality control program to ensure continuous production of products that are consistent with the company’s established quality standards. The supervisor will be assigned to the inspection areas for sheet metal fabrication and welding. This position will require a current AWS CWI certification.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversees the daily workflow and assignments of the Quality Department within the Fabrication (Sheet Metal and Structural) areas.
- Leads and train employees in the Quality Department within the Fabrication (Sheet Metal, Structural, and Building Sheet Metal Assembly) areas.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations, coaching, and mentoring.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supervises a team of Quality Inspectors and assists in the inspection process, when necessary.
- Train production welding staff in weld techniques.
- Coordinates and conducts welder qualification testing.
- Write and update welding procedures, as necessary.
- Oversees the execution of quality control processes for the assigned area, including quality control inspections and non-conforming materials management.
- Collect and review daily quality control reports for accuracy; complete required reports, logs, and checklists for manufacturing projects as needed
- Coordinate quality work with the Production Schedule and ensure jobs are coordinated and completed within established timeframes.
- Review project specifications, regulations/laws, issues, and news with respect to product (service) quality; implement Quality procedures to comply with project requirements.
- Maintain quality equipment and keep inspection equipment current with scheduled calibration.
- Train quality personnel in the correct use of equipment, specification compliance, and proper recordkeeping.
- Lead problem-solving initiatives to analyze quality failures and help drive quality improvements.
- Issue and monitor Corrective Action Reports (CARs); facilitate improvements with Department Managers.
- Assist in performing internal ISO audits.
- Promote the Crown’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Ensure all team members follow quality & safety procedures and that all failure incidents are promptly reported and investigated.
- Assist with training of personnel in AWS welding disciplines (Sheet Metal and Structural).
- Provide guidance to management on improvements in: WPS, Welding Equipment, and Welding Protocols.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding of ISO-9001 Quality Management System

- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to serve as a liaison with customers, auditors, production managers, project managers, and the quality department.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to complete reports and logs.
Experience/Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree in related field preferred.
- Current AWS CWI certification required.
- At least two years of experience in effectively leading a team of employees
- At least three years of experience in quality control, manufacturing, fabrication, or related field
- Experience in the following disciplines is a plus: mechanical assembly, metal fabrication, or welding
Physical Requirements:
- Periods of standing, walking, and sitting at a desk using a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
- Dexterity and accuracy as needed to operate testing equipment or gauges.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform inspections.
- Must be able to traverse production facility to conduct inspections.
- Must wear PPE, such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hat, and ear protection, while working on the production floor.
Salary : $70,000 - $85,000
