Position Overview:We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious forklift operator to join our steel manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience handling heavy materials, a strong understanding of forklift operation, and a commitment to workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate a forklift effectively and safely while prioritizing personal and team safety.
Conduct daily forklift safety checks, including brakes, oil levels, hoists, and potential leaks.
Accurately locate, transport, and position materials, ensuring updates are made when materials are moved.
Secure and center loads at appropriate heights, ensuring clearance from surrounding objects.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment, free of debris.
Stack materials neatly and safely at designated heights and in assigned locations.
Ensure materials are loaded in accordance with customer specifications.
Load materials onto arms for slitter operations as needed.
Perform dock audits when required.
Qualifications:
Valid MIOSHA certification and operator’s permit (must carry permit at all times).
Valid Michigan State Driver’s License.
Hi-lo permit from a previous employer and at least 6 months of experience handling steel with a 15,500-pound capacity forklift.
In-depth knowledge of forklift functionality, weight limits, and maximum capacity.
Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
Basic computer skills for tracking and updating material movement.
