Co-responsible for the overall operation of the hotel. Acts as MOD in the absence of the hotel General Manager. Ensures the attainment of budget for all departments of Hotel.

  • Assists in monitoring compliance with labor standards and staffing guidelines by all departments.
  • Assists in monitoring compliance with established room rate plans, participates in the revenue management decisions of the hotel.
  • Assists in monitoring operating expense tracking system for all departments.
  • Assists to establish annual incentive programs for all department heads.
  • Actively participates in staff meetings on weekly basis to ensure interdepartmental communication and coordination of mutual goals.
  • Assists in conducting audits on a quarterly basis of departmental procedures and results.
  • Assists in monitoring Daily Rooms Inventory Control and merchandising procedures.
  • Assists in conducting rate surveys of competitive hotels and monitors program for competitive analysis and price-value assessment.
  • Assist in monitoring, and ensures compliance with amenity programs, applicable franchise and Company standards, as well as promotional materials.
  • Actively participates in and assures compliance with established M.O.D. Program.
  • Assists in developing annual Capital and R & M budgets for approval by Corporate Office.
  • Works with General Manager to ensure completion of all approved Capital and R & M items, coordinating with VP of Operations and Corporate Purchasing office.
  • Conducts daily inspections of guest rooms to ensure housekeeping is meeting/exceeding cleanliness standards.
  • Participates in bi-weekly property inspections and helps develop action plans to include time-table to resolve problems.
  • Promotes guest satisfaction in an effort to obtain repeat business of leisure and organizational markets.
  • Evaluates guest complaints and ensures that corrective action is taken by department heads.
  • Responds to Guest Surveys in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Promotes and maintains a positive image for the hotel by actively participating in the community through affiliations with various organizations as directed by the General Manager.
  • Ensures adequate staffing levels are maintained, adhering to labor budget as P.O.R., percent to sales, and approved staffing guidelines. Actively covers line level shifts/duties as required by business levels of the hotel.
  • Aids in ensuring compliance of all department heads with goal-oriented job descriptions and reviews goals with each individual as directed by the General Manager.
  • Ensures development and maintenance of job descriptions in each employee's personnel file.
  • Reviews any revisions/additions made to job description with applicable employees.
  • Participates in annual performance evaluations on all department heads. Ensures all department heads conduct annual performance evaluations with their employees.
  • Assists to encourage promotion from within and employee development through goal setting and employee training.
  • Assists in ensuring that the hotel is compliant with all Federal and State laws with regard to personnel practices.
  • Attends and completes brand required advanced management training as directed by the General Manager.
  • Attains proficiency in all required systems; i.e.: PMS, POS, Micros/Aloha, Accounting, any/all systems required to operate the hotel effectively.
  • Assists in ensuring the safety and security of the hotel, protecting the asset from destruction, situations resulting in negative guest perceptions, or failure of any Life Safety guidelines.
  • Performs other related and unrelated tasks as assigned by the General Manager.

Environmental Conditions: Inside position--protection from weather conditions. Will be necessary to perform outside assignments approximately 10% of time performing grounds and parking lot inspections, exterior renovations, etc.

Schedule: The Assistant General Manager acts as proxy for the General Manager during his/her absence. This position plays a large role in the MOD program. This position is typically scheduled for second shift (1pm to 11pm), or as directed by the General Manager, based on needs of the hotel.

Essential Skills: Must possess management skills: leadership ability and operations knowledge, skills and ability, and oral and written communication skills. Must have familiarity (or ability to become quickly familiar) with franchise and corporate standards and procedures, must be knowledgeable of all hotel departmental procedures and operations, must possess accounting and budgeting (finance) skills, and must have ability to develop, implement, and monitor multiple projects.

Educational/Vocational Preparation: Bachelor's degree preferred (graduation from an accredited Hotel/Restaurant management program may be given preference). Experience in hotel management gained through on-the-job training may substitute for degree.
