CRST Capacity Solutions
CRST’s Capacity Solutions team delivers reliable, flexible general freight solutions powered by strategic planning and operational execution. We focus on building long-term customer partnerships by optimizing fleet performance and responding to market trends with smart, scalable service.
THE POSITION
Reporting Structure: The Director - Commercial Development reports to the VP - Capacity Operations.
The Director - Commercial Development drives revenue growth, customer success and load optimization for CRST’s general freight business. This role leads the Key Accounts team, manages freight strategy and supports cross-functional alignment across regions to deliver margin improvement and fleet utilization gains.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic Freight Planning: Lead freight strategy, load balance and optimization efforts using data and market intelligence
- Customer Development: Cultivate strong customer relationships and serve as the escalation point for service recovery
- Team Leadership: Manage, coach and elevate Key Accounts team performance toward profitability and service targets
- Talent Development: Build a strong team bench by developing leaders, driving employee engagement and creating growth opportunities
- Revenue Growth: Identify and evaluate new freight opportunities to support network expansion
- Operational Alignment: Partner with Planning and Operations to drive coordination and execution
- Process Improvement: Enhance systems and workflows to improve efficiency and customer experience
- Performance Management: Monitor KPIs, track progress and report results to Capacity leadership
- Accountability & Reliability: Maintain regular and reliable attendance while supporting evolving business needs
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
- Education: HS Diploma or GED
- Industry Background: Transportation or logistics experience, ideally in freight management, customer service or operations
- Team Leadership: Proven success leading high-performance teams and managing escalations with accountability
- Analytical Thinking: Strong data orientation and experience using freight metrics to drive decisions
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Effective at partnering across teams to identify solutions and align execution
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or relevant certifications
- Freight Strategy: Experience with segmentation, load optimization and commercial planning
- Customer Leadership: Demonstrated success growing strategic customer partnerships
- Executive Communication: Skilled at influencing and presenting to senior leadership
- Results Focus: High sense of ownership and commitment to continuous improvement and performance metrics
