Summary:
Responsible to safely operate and maintain equipment (mobile cranes) on project sites.

Essential Functions:
  • Safely operate equipment on project site(s).
  • Aid in diagnosing equipment failures to ensure safety, cost efficiency and production.
  • Ensure and conduct minor maintenance of equipment, to include monitoring and maintaining appropriate fluid levels, fueling and greasing of equipment being operated.
  • Conduct manual labor, i.e., shoveling, using a chainsaw, as needed in order to complete project assignment.
  • Effectively work with other members of project team to produce contract/project requirements.
  • Maintain record keeping, to include load counts, equipment hours and production.

Other Tasks:
  • Assist in loading and unloading equipment from or to delivery truck.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • Assist other shop and operations staff as requested.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and preferably able to perform other tasks satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum:
  • Must have NCCCO, CIC or other nationally accredited crane certification.
  • Must have 5 years of experience operating, rigging/signaling or working with cranes.
Preferred: 
  • OSHA 10hr. Training

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and ability to safely and productively operate equipment used for heavy
    civil construction.
  • Knowledge of and ability to read and follow plans, specifications, sketches and
    grade/mapping control.
  • Knowledge of and ability maintain equipment and follow related procedures.
  • Ability to assess and troubleshoot equipment failure.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply first aid.
  • Ability to see and record written data and information.
  • Ability to communicate information in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to effectively understand and communicate verbally with others.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Ability to meet project schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to wear protective clothing.
