Job Summary:
The R&D and Packaging Project Engineer will be responsible for engineering product design, development, and leading laboratory services for projects. This role emphasizes R&D product development, including new packaging formulations. The individual will manage incoming lab projects, review test requests, create samples, develop new materials/technologies, and write protocols. Responsibilities also include scheduling chambers, calibrating instruments, acquiring and analyzing data, writing reports, creating bills of materials, and performing cost roll-ups for new products. Additionally, troubleshooting, startup & quality validations, and sales project support are essential duties.
Essential Job Functions:
- Drive R&D product development initiatives, focusing on new materials and technology development.
- Manage engineering projects and support global operations.
- Write test protocols and reports.
- Manage test worksheets, record and analyze data, and monitor timelines for projects.
- Support the sales group with test data and project status reporting.
- Conduct CN processes, create BOMs, conduct costing, and perform cost roll-ups for new or revised products.
- Create CAD models and drawings for documentation, protocols, reports, packing instructions, and marketing.
- Conduct new product design and samples/prototype builds
- Execute lab tests for thermal test projects.
- Maintain lab equipment, instruments, and samples; keep storage areas organized and clean.
- Travel may be required up to 20% based on business needs.
- Perform all other duties as assigned, not including supervisory responsibilities
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Packaging, Chemistry, or other related Engineering disciplines.
- Minimum 2 years’ packaging engineering experience in a relevant industry. A chemistry background is preferred.
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
- SolidWorks experience and 3D/2D CAD modeling/drawing skills.
- Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, package materials, and testing procedures (e.g., ASTM, ISTA).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with coworkers and vendors.
- Must be able to lift 10 lbs. if needed
- Must be able to sit for long periods.
