About Us

Founded in 2021, Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is a nonprofit, four-year MD program enhancing traditional medical education with the arts, humanities, and whole health principles. The School’s culture embraces self-care to empower students to care for their own well-being as well as their patients’. The School’s state-of-the-art medical education facility is under construction in Bentonville, Arkansas on the Crystal Bridges campus, home to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Heartland Whole Health Institute. The School has been granted preliminary accreditation status by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.

What We Seek

We are building a cadre of medical professionals trained in conventional medicine and in whole health, by reimagining medical education. We seek leaders and faculty who are excited by this endeavor. Faculty and staff members will contribute to the development and rollout of the ARCHES curriculum, which is built on evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. It includes the following six core elements :

  • R esearch
  • C linical
  • H ealth Systems Science
  • E mbracing Whole Health
  • S cience of Medicine

All six areas of the curriculum will be interwoven throughout the four-year curriculum.

About The Position

The Anatomy Resource Center (ARC) Manager at the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) will collaborate with faculty to coordinate teaching labs and provide instructional support as needed. This role involves maintaining and managing anatomical specimens, as well as maintaining records and inventory of these specimens while they are stored and used for teaching in the ARC. Additional responsibilities include ensuring lab safety, maintaining equipment / computers / AV systems, managing inventory, ordering supplies, and supporting virtual anatomy lab resources.

Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions Specific to The Position :

  • Monitor and maintain the inventory of specimens and models.
  • Maintain inventory of anatomy lab supplies, place orders, and confirm receipt of purchases.
  • Track usage trends and anticipate needs to ensure smooth lab workflow.
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of supplies and equipment, and monitor lab safety and cleanliness.
  • Collaborate with vendors, including those handling hazardous waste.
  • Track data on lab usage by students, equipment, and supplies, and generate reports.
  • Assist with coordinating preparation and set-up for anatomy labs and practical exams.
  • Maintain specimens and transport them to and from teaching sessions in the classroom.
  • Maintain lab schedule.
  • Maintain and operate anatomy lab equipment, computers, AV systems, and iPads.
  • Transport, lift, and move plastinated specimens in the lab setting.
  • Assist in coordinating events hosted in the ARC.
  • Assist in lab instruction as qualified and needed including the use of virtual reality instruction.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Education

  • Required : Bachelor's degree in anatomy, biological science, or a related discipline.
  • Preferred : Master’s Degree in Anatomy or a related discipline
  • Required Work Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience working in an anatomy laboratory.
  • Proficiency in productivity and educational technology software such as Google Apps, Microsoft Office, and video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom).
  • Ability to effectively communicate and supervise student workers who assist with anatomy lab operations.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
  • A positive, energetic perspective toward working in a graduate-level anatomy education environment.
  • Personal characteristics or traits include outstanding organization, interprofessional communication, excellent time management, reliability, and the ability to work independently and with others of varied experience and skill levels.
  • Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Anatomy or a related discipline
  • At least 2-3 years of experience managing and coordinating operations of an anatomy laboratory.
  • Experience with virtual anatomy platforms (e.g., VH Dissector, Complete Anatomy), learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), and interactive or related educational technologies and tools.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and group needs effectively.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
