Description

The Standardized Patient (SP) position will play a vital role in the education of medical students at Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM). This individual will be trained to portray a clinical patient’s medical history, condition, and emotional state accurately and consistently for the purpose of creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences for AWSOM student doctors.

SPs are facilitators, providing critical feedback to our medical students and contributing to the creation of a safe learning environment in which students can demonstrate their learning and hone their skills in medical history-taking and physical examinations. Reporting directly to the Standardized Patient Program Manager, SPs will work collaboratively with each other as well as AWSOM faculty and staff to provide learning experiences that are safe, inclusive, meaningful, and transformative.

While acting experience or ability is helpful, it is not required, nor is specific medical experience. People of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, as diversity and inclusion are critical components of both our program and our school.

Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is seeking experienced, motivated, and dedicated leaders, educators, facilitators, and staff to participate in the design and delivery of an innovative four-year medical school curriculum that engages medical students in active and novel learning.

Founded in 2021 by philanthropist Alice Walton, the School of Medicine, will offer a four-year, medical degree-granting program that integrates conventional medicine with holistic principles and self-care practices. Taught by leading medical practitioners and scientific minds, the first-of-its-kind medical school will help students rise to the health challenges of the 21st century with a focus on mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health and will include an attached clinic for clinical training in these concepts. Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions Specific to the Position :

  • Demonstrates reliability and flexibility with scheduling and assignments.
  • Participates in required trainings around clinical scenarios.
  • Follows written and verbal instructions.
  • Receives and applies constructive feedback in a timely manner.
  • Provides constructive feedback effectively, efficiently, and without bias.
  • Simulates real-world medical scenarios accurately and consistently, including symptoms, behaviors, and medical histories.
  • Participates in private, recorded interviews and exams replicating real-world doctor-patient interactions while wearing hospital gowns (with a tank top / shirt and loose-fitting shorts underneath).
  • Follows program procedures before, during, and after events.
  • Works professionally with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and peers.
  • Maintains privacy and confidentiality of educational materials, student assessment, and feedback.

Required Qualifications :

  • Flexible schedule and availability for part-time work during weekdays.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfort wearing hospital gowns (with a tank top / shirt and loose-fitting shorts underneath), being repeatedly examined by learners, and being recorded during events.
  • Age 18 .
